    Fac mvt airwolf...

Well, my new .22 MVT wolf finally showed up at my door. I had to wait a bit extra for it, but I'm very happy to have a LH bolt. I went for the synthetic stock and I'm really happy with the shape and feel of the synthetic. The synthetic seems to be just about the same size, shape, and weight of the walnut that came with my older airwolf. I mounted up a 6.5-20 Leupold EFR and a harris bi-pod...

Max fill pressure is 230 bar and at full power this rig is spitting JSB's at 1040 fps!!!! That's a nice healthy 38fpe.

It spits out the 21g Kodiaks at a very respectable 940fps -for 41.4 FPE!

Man this rig is a shooter! :mosh: I shot a total of 10 50yd goups (5 shots each) with JSB's up at 1040fps. The two bad groups came in at .59" c-t-c (thanks to a R to L breeze), and the other 8 groups were all easily sub .5". Here's a couple of the pretty ones:

    http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/IMG_0790.jpg

Here's the prized group of the ones I shot today. I'm pretty frickin' happy about this one It been a while since I've seen a group like this one at 50yds!

    http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/IMG_0792.jpg

When they get this tight, I have trouble getting an accurate c-t-c measurement, but I think its safe to say I made it under the .25" mark for a solid 1/4 MOA group at 50....

The digital display is pretty cool, IMO. Here it shows that there's 163.4 bar in the tank, Velocity is set at 920fps, I'm on shot # 296, and the battery has 10.6V of juice...

    http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...o/IMG_0773.jpg

The way you set the power is pretty cool too. You can scroll from anywhere between 400fps and 1000fps. You can stop anywhere you want in that range...

Not too shabby, eh? Yep, I was just about to kick back and tell myself how frickin' AWESOME this gun is, and then the electronics went all funny on me... Here's the part where all you guys get to pat yourselve's on the back for not buying the first run of the latest new gun!...

So I fill 'er up to 230bar, and set the velocity to 920 fps:

    MY chrony says: .......1032,1026,1022,1014,1009
    Gun's read-out says: 996, 978, 978, 970, 963,

...so I start wondering when its gonna go down to the 920fps that I set it to...???

    By shot # 20 I'm seeing:

    MY chrony says:.......991,992,995,991,995...
    Gun's read-out says: 66, 0, 65, 65, 33, 76...

...WELL... That's a bummer. I tried -re-setting it to the factory defults, and all I get is max power and bad readings from the on-board chrony. I'm not able to adjust the power. It seems the Chrony went bad in the first 1/2 hour of shooting, and I have no power adjustment... Pack it back up and ship it back to the dealer.....

Ignore the on-board read-out and it does shoot pretty good though. Looks like it'll stay above 1000fps with JSB's for about 60 shots:

    1-10:..1034,1037,1040,1040,1038,1038,1036,1036,1037, 1042
    11-20:1040,1038,1037,1036,1037,1037,1039,1032,1036,10 33
    21-30:1036,1034,1035,1031,1034,1031,1032,1028,1025,10 29
    31-40:1031,1028,1026,1024,1028,1024,1025,1021,1016,10 20
    41-50:1020,1019,1017,1016,1018,1016,1017,1012,1012,10 10
    51-60:1010,1008,1008,1006,1003,1003,1003,1005, 1001,1000
    ...#61:...999...

So, this thing IS AWESOME. too bad about my little computer glitch. I'm off to go pack it back up and ship it back to the dealer. If they can fix my little glitch so I can turn the power down a bit and get that shot compensation working, its gonna be one hell of an airgun I think!

    Regards,

    Scott in CO

Sounds like a fantastic rifle, shame about the prob with the power settings but sure that will be rectified. How do you find the balance/handling of this gun for hunting purposes ie is it a practical gun to carry round ,with sling fitted, over a days shooting.Rgds Gerald.

Nice shooting there Scott, but a pity about the glitch, still those groups at fifty yards and at that mv are amazing! which brings me to my second thought.
Why can't Theoben Rapids group like that at similar muzzle velocities ?.. same barrels i believe so perhaps it's the mag's damaging the pellets ? or am i wrong guys and they can, don't think so though.

Your going to love shooting that beast, i know i would.

    Hi Graeme,

Same apology to you for not being able to respond sooner. Thanks for the kind words. I'm with you: I have not seen theobens or any other rifle grouping so well at such high velocities. I am still a bit shocked to see a 17" barrel group so well at such high velocities. It doesn't make sense to me either! I've heard David Snook mention the new faster valve in these electronic guns is helping improve the accuracy -and he's seen this result even with mediocre barrels. Something about the sudden and violent air blast from such a fast valve does a better job of seating the pellet and making it conform better to the rifling. Sounds good to me, and maybe this is why this rifle is shooting so well at such high speeds? I do notice my rapid does have a noticably slower 'lock-time'... with my rapid, it does take a while from the trigger pull to the pellet leaving the barrel... when compared to the airwolf anyway!

    Hi Gerald,

I've been w/out internet the last couple of weeks so I apologize for not answering your question sooner. IMO, the airwolf balances surprisingly well. I think the extra weight of the batteries and electronics helps balance out the weight of the big air bottle up front. Much better balance than the rapids IMO. With a relatively light scope, the airwolf is a fantastic off-hand shooter. It may be a bit heavier than many sporters, but it balances so well, it doesn't bother me. If you must have a lighter weight gun for carrying all day long, then I'd say have a look at the MK4...

    regards,
