    mercury mk3 piston

    clamped up a mercury mk3 piston in the lathe to see how true the thing runs, what garbage its way out the outer tube runs round like a buckled wheel no wonder the motorcycle industry couldnt compete ,are they all like this or have i a friday afternoon rush job.

    Hmmmm......try and repeat this with a piston from a 1908 bsa underlever......from when our manufacturing industry, science, rail network, army,navy etc. etc. etc. was the envy of the world!!!!!!!

    Some of the later Meteor pistons look as if they were made from a tin can!
    Reading a reprint of the 1912 BSA guide to rifles. The Lee Enfield bolt was made from a solid casting with 143 separate milling operations!! Those were the days.
