What was your luckiest air gun deal?

As the year comes to a close I was thinking of some of the deals I had missed that I could kick myself for, and also some of the jammy deals that I stumbled into that still bring a smile to my face. For me probably the best was when had I arranged to a buy a Lincoln Jeffries Scout air pistol from a well known dealer who shall remain nameless, someone who often has a stall at arms fairs. The price agreed by phone was £150. I had been looking for one of these for ages and was happy to pay this price for a simple push-barrel because of its rarity. After travelling a fair distance to an arms fair to pick up the gun I found when I got there that the dealer had had a better offer and had sold it without telling me. Naturally I was pretty narked about this and walked around the fair in a bad mood without really looking closely at the stalls like I usually do, when somehow something under a pile of nondescript guns caught my eye. It turned out to be another Scout - only the third I had come across (and one of those had sold for over £300 at an auction). The stallholder wanted £50 for it, and needless to say I almost snatched his hand off. Not only was it one of the best deals I had ever made, there was also the sweet moment when I nonchalantly went back to the other dealer and showed him to him, and thanking him for saving me £100.

Has anybody else had a streak of surprising good luck and pulled off a memorable deal?

I walked into a gunshop a few years back. Looked at a few shotguns , but nothing of interest. I asked the dealer If he had any old airguns.
Only one he said , and produced a boxed mint Webley Target airpistol.
£120 lighter and I walked out.
My best deal to date .
    My worst deal ?
    Well , thats another thread.

I bought his Diana 52 in .22 for 50 quid
Spent another 60 getting its serviced and never looked back.
Brilliant rifle, now got used to the weight.
Jammy git I am.Last weekend I was given A BSA Airsporter with 4x20 scope.
    Again .22,again a wardrobe find.

I used to deliver to Twinnings in Andover and one of the drivers from the transport department said to me that he had an old air rifle under his bed, he said he wanted £40 for it, he then produced a few days later a rather rough BSA Challenger, which I had reblued and tuned at SFS and done the stock up, I bagged more bunnies with that rifle than other I've ever had since but foolishly traded it in for another rifle.

Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in

About 18 months ago at a flea market......I saw a steel butt plate under a pile of odds and ends in the back of an estate car (they were setting up, and I was early).......I asked the guy what it was......"it's an old airgun.....I don't know if it works"

£70 later, and I had this under my arm

    Me? Lucky? NEVER !

But then there is the rough BSF55 that I got for a fiver. The tatty HW77 action, including trigger, which I got for a tenner. The boxed, as new BSF55 for, wait for it, £40 (that is going back a few years ) and the Export Vixen sold by a local dealer (they thought it was just another Export) for £120. I haggled him down from £140 Then there was the BSF model 65 that was openly advertised in Airgun World.
It just goes to prove you CAN be lucky AND good looking.

    Seasons greetings.

    Luck. Or determination?

First up was in a s/h sporting goods shop/hunting/fishing.
Hanging on the wall was a small selection of s/h airguns, nearly all of which I had passed on, but there was one I instantly recognised ( this was in 1978, been at it a loooong time, me ).
Trying to not get too excited I asked to see it. In excellent condition too and 'how much?' I asked. 'Well, it's a bit old, not something the modern youth of today want really, so let's say....erm, ......a tenner.'

    A Webley MK.1 RIFLE.
Wrapped up in newspaper and carried home 12 miles by sitting on it as I was on my motorbike at the time. Left a scar on my .rse LOL. Still got both!

Or there's the Webley Service MK.11, third pattern, bought as a load of bits in truly dreadful condition, and only missing the trigger sear ( I made a new one ) To you sir, just £4. Still a nice piece to shoot, especially with it's .25 carbine barrel made from a BSA blank.
    Again, late 70's.

How about a freebie........a Gem pattern rifle. The barrel was bent. Had been used as a tyre lever. I kid you not. Another keeper.

Or one only this year. Well, two actually!
A good friend of mine new I was into this collecting game, and classic bikes, and just happened to mention in passing, that he had an old pistol in his loft, cleared out with 'another pistol or rifle' some 20 odd years ago when a mutual friend moved into his then new house. Where he still lives ( important that ).
So he turns up with a very nice boxed with trimmings, Webley MK.1 wood grip
pistol. Swapped it for a nearly new pair of biker boots that were a bit too stiff in the ankle for me. I had offered him market price as well.
It got better, our friend found the other airgun. Some months later
a Diana Mk.4 pistol AND a tin of .177 Webly pellets was mine for a drink.

    Perhaps your'e right. I'm a lucky B.

I think my luckiest deal was to get a Falke 90 complete with rear sight for £104 at auction. Cost me another £15 to have it delivered though, so not such a great bargain in the end.
