BSA Club With Additional Airsporter Number On Barrel.

I've been contacted by someone who has a BSA Club with the correct 'E' prefix to the serial number on the trigger block, E10280, and the shorter cylinder, but it also has a 'G' prefix number on the left side of the barrel, G14535, just to the front of the rear sight.
This number is totally out of character for the rifle, being normally associated with .22 calibre, apart from being in an unusual place.
    Anyone got any ideas ?
Mark Knibbs could throw no light on it, and the same question has been asked on the AVAGF, without success.
It would appear to be a total anomaly.
