    Aldi's scope bargain 2010

Pal of mine bought one for £20.
We compared the scope with my Kowa 77mm Flourite Crystal lens job , 30x Wide angle at Sealand Rifle range @100m.
The Kowa has fantastic clarity and resolving power.Expensive.
The Aldi was suprisingly good at lower powers.
For looking at .22 holes in good light at 100m it works well.
As the power is increased the image gets bigger but very soft focus and worst at 60x.
So for £20 for general spotting ok.
The zoom for mine alone is c £250 is but as with telescopic sights you get diminshing return for you money as the quality goes up.
The Kowa is used for watching wildlife where I like to see every detail.
With shooting I guess you just need to identify the bullet's impact.
So thumbs up for the Aldi with tripod and scope bag.

    I bought one.

Has been used mostly for perving at neighbours' windows... (Only kidding)

I found the same. Anywhere between 20x and 40x it's pretty clear in good light. Beyond the 40x, and it loses clarity very quickly. To be honest, though, 40x is more than adequate for most spotting.

£20 is a phenomenal price considering the decent little metal tripod it comes with.

The other little detail I liked was that the scope attaches to the tripod via a standard camera screw (The kind most cameras accept)

This means it can be mounted to any old tripod instead of the supplied mini one. Much easier for someone to sit in a seat, or stand to spot, or indeed use as a traditional telescope.

Used mine in the competition at the weekend where it came in very handy. When shooting a grizzly bear with a .44 mag using open sights at 50 metres.... you need to know where your hitting!

..... I still came last though!
