This is a mini review/ heads up on these mounts.
I had been using a cobbled up mount with dovetails and weaver adaptors to mount my 30mm tubed Taipan on the fixed weaver mounts on my Savage HMR, and was looking for a permenant solution which would lower it below the 2 1/2" height.
I could see that with a normal mount (for me) the clamp would foul the large side wheel, so the next option would be a reach forward (or in this case reach back) mount, but a couldn't be sure it would allow me to get correct eye relief and at around £70 for a 30mm to weaver mount could be an expensive mistake.
Thats where the Nikko Stirling Platinum mounts come into there own, instead of the 'normal' clamp that has lugs sticking out, these clamp either side of the scope and easily clear the side wheel, and at around £15 per pair are considerably cheaper than the reach forward mount I would otherwise have to use.
