Could anybody indentify this caplock pistol please ?

Prussian possibly, and a conversion from flintlock to percussion lock. What calibre is it? I'm guessing it's smoothbore and maybe around .60"

There is a name engraved on the lock-plate, but it is not clear enough to read in the photograph. Try using a magnifying glass or loupe with lighting from different angles to read the name.

Thank you for your response.
Yes, you are correct; it is about 0.6" and smoothbore.
I didn't realise that it could be a conversion until you mentioned it, very interesting.

I had looked for a makers mark but the closest that I could find to anything resembling that was shown in the last photo; but it really is impossible to read from any angle.

In case it's not clear, all the metal work appears to be iron, I can't find any brass; The barrel is 6 3/4".

Ok, so now I'm looking on Google for Prussian Flintlock or Prussian Percussion Cap Conversion pistol; that gives me something to go on.

Have a look at these for similarities in the lock style particularly the use of the flintlocks frizzen spring for the nipple protecting safety.

I see your reasoning, the pistol in the Gunbroker link is especially similar and the other link explains the history very well, ( I did have to look up what a frizzen was)..

I have learned a lot today.
