    Thumbs up

A quick update for those planning to go to the International Birmingham Arms Fair prior to making their way to Melbourne on June 16th, I went last Sunday for a recce.

    Opening Times:
08.45-09.45... Dealer and keen collector preview (£7)
    10.00-15.00... Open admission (£4)

Journey time to Melbourne: 35-40 minutes, 30 miles. (M42/A42/B587)

    What's there?
It is a large event with perhaps 150 stalls. Mainly de-acts and militaria, but there were several stalls dedicated to airgunners, some pre-war BSA's, a few Webley Service rifles, plenty of Webley pistols.

Henry Krank's had a stall, as did E.J.Blackley & Son who have a good selection of their own finishing products. So if you have something particular in mind it might be worth a call beforehand so that you can pick the item up?

I had an enjoyable hour wandering around and think it would make a nice warm up for the main event.

If you can get to Birmingham on the Saturday afternoon before the two fairs, it might be worth considering a trip straight up the A34 from the Premier Inn to visit the gun-quarter. There's not a lot to see anymore but some of the buildings are of interest and you could have a drink at the Bull on Price Street. You will be drinking in the lunchtime hostelry of generations of gunmakers. Maybe Westley-Richards might let you look around their showroom if they are open. It's out of this world - never seen blueing or woodwork like it! The Birmingham Armoury near the Town Hall is the last proper gunshop in the City Centre and worth a visit.
