Adjusting trigger advice. Webley Mkl Pistol

As title really. The pistol is reassembled and the adjusting screw functions OK.
So what am I looking to achieve by altering turning the screw?
Does it set "pull force"? If so what is a good starting figure?
I can see it sets travel between first contact with the sear and release of the piston so again what's a good basic set point other than cock then thump it on a lump of wood to check for hair trigger?

The adjusting screw merely reduces sear engagement as you screw it in. Screw it in too far and the pistol will either not cock or worse...cock but fire when you close the barrel, or even let go whilst you are loading a pellet.
Just set it so that you have a trigger pull with a little creep but a SAFE let off.
    Pete.

Thanks Pete. Clear and concise. Regards, Jules.
