    Air Arms Alfa Project Problems

When I was shooting my pistol at my local club last night the shaft of the hammer cocking buttons sheared. Not a problem in itself, but is this a common fault or unusual? Another side effect is that, although I can still cock the pistol using the broken part, the power output has been seriously reduced to the point that there isn't enough power to make the pellet even fall out of the end of the barrel. Anyone know why this is? It has been suggested, by the ever helpful Julian at Bond Gun Accessories, that the broken shaft is preventing the pistol from being cocked fully - hence the reduction in power - but he's not absolutely sure. Does anyone else know what the problem might be?

    hi
can you see if there is any part left in the hammer as if the hammer dose not travel fully the it wont hit the valve correctly not letting enough air to pass
my sons also snapped we returned it to AA who repaired it

Hi tigercat, thanks for your reply, I'll have a look to see if there's anything there.
    Cheers, Paul

    Hammer Button Assembly

My Hammer Button Assembly also snapped and I too suffered power loss.
It was nearly sent back to Air Arms but they told me that a replacement Hammer Button Assembly was not available as they have been on back-order since October 2023! So I decided to hang fire on returning my pistol to Air Arms.

I contacted Air Arms only last week and they still can’t promise a delivery date for a replacement Hammer Button Assembly.

I got a friend with a lathe to make a replacement and as soon as the part was fitted the power was restored.
I guess that the hammer bounces without the complete button being present and this causes the dramatic power loss?

does the hammer button attach directly to and move with the hammer ? Is so then yes, this significant weight reduction in the hammer would affect strike force and dwell time.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Yes, the hammer button assembly locates into a hole within the hammer. Replacing the hammer button assembly (in full) does restore the power.

Air Arms are still awaiting re-stocking of this item, it’s been on back-order since October 2023.

It’s easy to manufacture something that’s probably better than the stock item. I can provide something that would be considered a temporary fix if anyone is struggling.
