I was on the phone to the proof house last week and they told me that ALL imported guns needed proofing, that included the EU.
I've been trying to find a used Hawken for weeks, they just don't exist. You can fill a truck with them in the US, but here in the UK they are like hens teeth used.

I'm happy to buy new as they aren't exactly expensive and you get the comfort of getting new with, guarantee, no blemishes or rusty bore.

    Hi
I’ve got a Thompson Center New Englander (hawken), with .50 rifled barrel, with excellent adjustable sights, and a 12 gauge smooth bore barrel. I could be persuaded to part with it, with or without the 12 gauge barrel - pm me if you’re interested.

From the website of the Birmingham Proof House http://www.gunproof.com/Proofing/proofing.html

    Foreign proof marks
Until June 1980, there was reciprocal agreement for recognition of certain foreign proof marks by international agreement. Since June 1980 when the United Kingdom became a member of the International Proof Commission ( the CIP), the United Kingdom has recognised all the proof marks of other member nations and reciprocally they all recognise United Kingdom marks.

Italy is a member of the CIP, I have never seen an Italian muzzleloader with UK proof marks.

As promised, I am following up my thread with a conclusion.

It seems I am going to be a victim of a crashing economy and I am forced to sell this gun the very day it was collected, today!
Bills have to be paid before gun ownership, and I was forced to buy it and I couldn't cancel

    so here we are :-
