I have had hundreds of air rifles, but only one Rapid!

It was by far the most disappointing thing (not just gun) I have ever owned. It had been buggered about by a previous owner, the barrel was ruined, the block had been mullered and it couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.
I spent a lot of money and time fixing it's various issues, but it continued to let itself down at every opportunity.

I have heard many owners at the Bash say that they are great cos they can be fixed without special tools. I have then gone on to watch said owners spend the entire weekend trying to make them work, without specialist tools.

    Unsuccessfully.

IMHO they are outdated, ugly cack and should be avoided at all costs. Buy a springer, it's just as accurate and will still work when you get into the field

    OK then

Just how accurate is the Rapid 7 compared to lets say an HW 100, BSA R10 SE or S200?

What sort of group size wiil you get at lets say 45 mts?

    Come on, out with it...

I'll try and do some groups over the weekend, but at 45 yards, around 3/4" is no problem.
That's with a theoben barrel, but if I stuck on an S200 barrel, guess what - it'll be just as accurate as an S200

Trying just sticking an S200 barrel onto an HW100

Yes, and then fixed it. Even then it was still no better than the cheapest, non reg'd pcp except it didn't have a gauge. So if it had pissed all it's air out, you didn't know until it was too late.

Some people like old cars. They spend all their time trying to make the damn thing work, have beards, smell of wurthers originals and have no friends. They would love a rapid!

Can you get it down to about 1/4 of an inch?

The S200 is a different matter. That is a PCP worth buying, best gun Air Arms ever made

Bit like an HW80, isn’t it? Ground-breaking, rightly incredibly popular when introduced, still gets the job done very well, and a dash of John Darling into the mix.

Very close to my S200T..but it had £200 worth of Leupy .177 BSA barrel on it.
Pity i dont have it still to compare ,but as a field gun it was really good...i fact, exceptional enough for me to remember it.
However as stated previously, nothing i have had PCP wise could beat the HFT500 i have at the moment..it is truly remarkable...as airguns go.
The CZ200T comes close, real close as does my benchrest TX200 ..however, the CZ is let down a bit with its trigger, and the other because it is a springer..lol.

Well on it's 42yd zero, my .25 FAC will put a mag of 12 in to a 1p size single hole, at my usual shooting rate of a shot every 10 seconds or so, I'm sure someone who did targets more seriously would get it smaller.

My .20 MFR does sub 5p single holes at 25yds, I might try it out longer but can't get 45m in my garden.

Then factor in you missed a few completely, so we're up to at least 12-13mm. Don't get me wrong, it's good shooting from a good gun, but it's not a 1/4" group at 46 metres

If they are reliable why have so many been worked on and bodged up most nice guns get looked after.

They sort of remined me of Jurassic Park guns I wonder if they were a bit of a copy

your logic is flawed.. your assumption is that if they were nice they'd not be messed with... the rapid is messed with as so many want to illegally convert it to fac power, as most on this forum know.

nothing to do with "nice" whatever that means.

it is also and out-and-out field gun, not a shelf/cupboard queen, to be looked at and polished. so an owner will not think twice about modifying if there's a potential improvement in it's function (whether he has the knowledge ir not).

finally, you correlate worked on with bodged up.. sure plenty have.. but they still survice, when the hw100s and daystates would have been scrapped for parts long ago, but the bodged up rapid limps on a huge number have also been worked on and improved. modified hammers, regs, barrels, vavles, qfs, guages, all available form many experts and vendors. it a popular gun and 30 odd years old, so you should t be surprised that you see a good few ropey ones.

and guess what.. people generally hold onto the good omes, not sell them.
