    loading a new .22 hw45.

i picked up my new hw45 this morning, it's black with brown grips, i also looked at the black star, the grip's were a little bit wide for so went for the std hw45, it look's like a well made pistol, i read the manual and had a real good look at it, then i tried to COCK it, i was amazed at how much force you even need to get to the lower power setting, let alone the full power setting, is there an easy way to do this.

What did you expect when buying a spring piston powered pistol? Have you ever used a spring powered rifle? Same concept. Not sure what to suggest but try resting it on a shooting table whilst cocking or on your thigh if seated.....you'll get the hang of it or buy a cheap pcp or co2 pistol if that doesn't work for you

I find Diana P8 much easier to cock, comes with a cocking aid that slips over end of barrel, just sayin

    “Ooh err Missus… Fnarr Fnarr!”🥴

But Geezer’s right in suggesting that as it noticeably improves the leverage. You can always cock it to the lower power level, then subsequently take it to the full power level if desired.

Whatever you do ... always keep good control of the pistol during cocking. You do not want to be resting part of the pistol unsecured, try to cock it, and have the unsecured bit slip away from you.
You will soon get the knack for a good secured method.
    Enjoy.
PS. If you think the HW45 is awkward, try a Haenel 28.

    Cheers, Phil

Greatly helps with my various Wobbleys. Had some strength issues following illness few years back, adopted this method, used it ever since.

I'll take it that you bought it secondhand as if you were to buy new you'd would of tried it in shop ? It sounds like this pistol is not for you, not every pistol is, so sell it and look for another pistol. A co2 pistol could be what you might find ideal.

^ This. Can be used either in sitting or standing positions. As I said above, adopted this for my spring pistols when I lost strength in my arms.

You will also find it becomes easier as the pistol eases with use - think of it as 'running in' as we used to do with cars.
I saw an earlier post from you saying you were mainly used to PCP's - springers are a different animal entirely. But worth the effort, & very rewarding when you get it right.
