Your thoughts on .20 cal rifles?

I once had a custom made S410 in .20. Like an idiot, I sold it. I’ve got a S410 Supalight, but I’m getting the hankering for a sprinter and want to revisit .20.

The question I suppose is: does .20 have the best points if .177 and .22, or is it just a waste of time?

I think it's the best UK calibre unless exclusively target shooting

I wish more pcp makers would offer it, HW have nailed it in springers

Be nice to see an 11 grain pellet too, though FTT are about right at a tad more

Every calibre has some kind of compromise because we have the 12fpe limit, .20 gives the best across the board compromise as a field/hunting pellet.
Never the best at any one thing, but also it's never the worst.

As above, for pure target work .177.

The .20 is the flattest flying of the three hunting calibres but lacks the weight of the loopier .25. The .22 is just a compromise calibre with the either best or worst parts of the other two depending on how you feel.

Waste of time ..for me.. as i have .177, .22 and .25 springers and PCP,s to choose from.
If i had to have only the one gun it would be .177...and it would be my .177 TX200.

Simple answer to the question is no.
It will never fly as flat and therefore be as forgiving as .177 or cause either same size hole and trauma of a .22/.25.
They are just different.
Doesnt mean it is worse or better depending upon what you want from the rifle/calibre in question, just different.

Very good calibre. Sadly the best pellet is no longer available (Bisley Superfield).

H&N FTT - the last batch I had were very loose in the barrel. They weren't inaccurate but made loading the 97 a little more tricky.

I've now swapped over to Weihrauch branded JSBs. They are very very good pellets - if a bit heavy.

Depends what you want it to do.

Hunting or target.

IMHO sub 12FPE I go .177.

Much wider range of pellets and ultra light to ultra heavy options.

.20 has simply never caught on and is not substantially supported by makers of equipment or pellets.

.177 has the edge for target and distance.

You could argue it has more clout but the .177 JSB predators seem to smack hard that not much gets away.

I wont be tempted by .20 and the new and 2nd hand market reflects its popularity anongst the air shooting community.

Got to agree , I had a rapid 7 in .20 cal but had to run it at around 10ftlbs , Not much pellet choice and they vary weights from 177 to 22 cal, The pellets vary to much in weight which can be a bugger to stay pre 12ftlbs, Defo better for 12+ and higher ,

The .177 only has an advantage because of its flatter shooting at ranges beyond the farmyard.
.22 only has an advantage because it is bigger within farmyard ranges.
There really isn't any trauma advantage in the size of pellet with 12ft/lns air rifles with typical critters they are used on, so lethality is all in shot placement.

Once above 18ft/lbs then use the .22 or bigger.
