    I tend to agree with you there Ed
    The close quarters dispatch theory seems good to me but I'm beginning to think it's a repurposed firearms barrel. An idea of the actual bore size and twist might prove interesting. I can remember seeing something similar but can't for the life of me, remember where.

    In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.

    Struggling here to post pictures from my phone. Might put a couple more up later, but probably won’t help.

    It looks to be a Weihrauch 35 barrel. Looking at the slot I think its where the barrel release catch was fitted. There would have been a spring there too. As to the muzzle I've never seen anything like it Regards Tim.

    This has to be the most unlikely suggestion yet.

    No idea what it is, but this pic reminds me of the Matrix.

    The only airgun I can think of with a barrel latch like the hw35,Is a Baikal,IJ38(I think) but,the front of the breech block is more angled,like the old El Gamo's

    I asked on a mlitary forum in the firearms section, no ideas or help there ....... but one wit's answer was;

    "Flag holder. For purposes of mounting Flag, White (Surrender). Just snag the material in there and it secures it quite well. Useful bit of kit in a tight situation."

    French issue, is it?

    LOL.
    It's got more chance of being a repurposed rock drill than a flag holder. Do my eyes deceive me, or do those forks appear to be tipped?
