Tony! you'll be proud of me.

    Hi Tone,

Well today I bought not only an old school Venom BSF but also treated my new partner to a HW30, she wants to have a go but finds all the rifles in my collection way to heavy, so whilst in Knibbsy's I got her to try the 30 for size and she could handle the weight, so I will need to look into this galling issue that's been mentioned recently

Pete. Very well done there, sir.

As we said elsewhere, the BSF is certainly "different" and a legendary rifle of yesteryear. And to bag what must now be an extremely rare Venom one......well done, my friend.

And very, very well done on getting a delightful 30 for your new partner. Huge respect for getting her into our wonderful hobby, and there's nothing quite like getting her her very own rifle to keep the interest. I'm guessing having a go with Craig's awesome special at The Bash helped?

They really are absolutely beautiful little things. Not just light and most manageable, but so accurate and so forgiving to shoot. Sure you'll have looked in on Mark's (CapitalBee) thread that was recently revived for lots of top hints on the galling subject? Once done you'll have that peace of mind and will be able to enjoy this fantastic little rifle for many years to come.

Keep an eye out for any future tuning tips from Nick, too, as this awesome little rifle has also cast its spell on him.

Proud of you? Yes. Well done, that man.

Can't wait to read his reply to this, Marky.

    Wonder if he tried one?

I can see an Export version coming with a most beautifully figured stock.

Thanks Tone, I did chat with Nick at the Bash regarding German rifles and all things German and I've done a little bit of self counselling, I did get her to shoulder an old Meteor but even I could see the difference in quality (I know you shouldn't really compare the two as they are leagues apart in years and engineering) and as for the triggers, we won't even think about comparing them, sorry to have to say but a 35 will always be considered ugly and even the grey laminate stocked version turned both of us off, it's just that bloody side catch and chunk out the stock, she even agreed with me on that one, I'm thinking of buying myself a lathe and having a go at making my own spring guides but as it has a year's warranty on it, I may not touch it in case the galling issue gets too bad (if it galls at all) and it needs to go back but I may just run some grease on that area, I did notice the spring has clear grease on it (like wheel bearing grease) and not the grey graphite we normally use, so may be a little exploratory tinker is in order to see what's going on inside and see what the spring to guide fit is like, I have so many other jobs to do first (I'm half way through rubbing my Airsporter S walnut stock down at the moment) so it may be some time before it gets attention and knowing how time flies another year will have gone by and the warranty will be up.

If you're reluctant to strip it down (and I can understand the reluctance), get hold of some high content moly paste (like Bumslide or Molyslip AS60) and apply a tiny amount on the lever and onto the cocking lever "foot" where it engages into the cylinder, Pete. I'd get some oil onto the cocking lever joint, too. Also a small drop of light oil onto the safety catch to keep that nice and free moving.

If you've never seen them before, have a look at the review of these on Dave Hoffman's "Dave's Airgun Reviews" and there's also a current one on the Hard Air Magazine website.

Although there are plenty of us that like the 35, I can understand your reasons. And it'll be awesome if you do get a lathe and can start making some of your own goodies up.

Thanks for that Tone, I'll have a look at that later.

Pete be careful as tony is a wizard who cast hw spells. I can see the wording like a modern verson of an old porn movie. ONCE YOU TASTE A "WINERACK" YOU NEVER GO BACK. The hw35 stock is ideal fence post material also so agree it looks as beautiful as a bulldig licking piss off a nettle

I would leave it alone apart from a breech seal.
A long time since i had anything to do with them, but if i
remember right, the scope rail has to come out when dismantling them.

Erm, are you talking about the HW30 or the BSF I've just got?

Don't worry Chris, a 35 will never get anywhere near me.
