    .22 shotgun

I had one years ago, used an almost dust like shot, used mainly on rats etc at short distance.

Garden guns came in .22 rimfire shot shells and 9mm rimfire shot shells.

Shot with a standard .22 rimfire rifle, Semi autos had to be hand cocked after each shot as there was not enough oomph in the shells to reload the next,

    shot shells

I used to shoot "shotgun like" shells out of my Uncle's .22 rimfire. Essentially a crimped ended rimfire cartridge with small shot inside it.
I once shot a rat running along an overhead lighting cable in his mill house with one. Very low power but enough oomph at 5 yards I guess

Had a Webley smooth bore .22 shotgun for quite a few years & my introduction to shooting was at a relatives farm mid 60's with one but I think that was a rifle as it had bullets as well. Pretty sure CCI still do shot shells in .22

Funnily enough I was looking at these in Cabellas last time I was visiting America.
These has a plastic bullet shaped top, see through so you could see the pellets inside.

They do in no9 the last and only box I bought. The worst waste of money I ever put through a gun. 9mm garden gun was 10x better.
2ltr milk carton, 5 yards, 3 shots missed, 1 hit with 3 pellets. Brno mod2.
Rifled barrels and shotshells is a waste of time

    .22 shotgun

Back in the late 80s one of the guys at our little clay shoot used to bring his 12 year old lad along with an AK47 shot gun, He shot single low driven clays with it .22 rat shot (9 1/2 dust shot) used to give us a laugh. when shot through a cartridge box on a fence post at 10 yards everyone thought he'd missed as the box never moved until close inspection revealed what looked like it had been pricked with a pin 50 times.

I remember seeing .177 shotgun cases while at Dennis Hillers. It was a little brass .177 case open at the front and back. You place a wad in first then several small lead shot then another wad at the front. When shot out of a break barrel the empty brass case remained in the gun to be re-used. It appears the Victorians (?) used these to collect samples of birds as it cause little damage to their plumage.

Then there was the bigger bore Daystate shotgun.

I used to own a 9mm Anschutz garden gun. The best thing about it was the (expensive) brass cases which made great targets for my fellow airgun friends.

    Every days a school day.
