    Sussex Sabot pellets

So I have been helping a friend go through hers Dad’s air rifle collection. Sadly he passed away recently and we have been finding that he was a hoarder of some unusual items. Tonight I got a message with these pics attached. It was a bit of a blast from the past! She found a box with 70 tins of Sussex Sabot .177s.

I have still got my original container of Sussex sabot’s with pen applicator in .22 cal,my actual sabot’s are similar in size to a 177 pellet.so I would think the 177 version must be pretty dinky in comparison.

Garrick, can you weight one for us please ?
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Must see x10 boxes of .22s compared to the rarer .177s. Sad circumstances but a very nice find.

Hi the .177 are the rarer ones. l would say about £25-30 if they are full and have the pens with them. l sold a tub of them on the bay for £28

If you find the pens then that would add the cherry to the cake. One pen per pot.
.177 rarer, though more people would have them in .22.

    They weren't very accurate.

No one is likely to make them again. Very collectable, especially being unopened. £30 a pot isn't robbing anyone. Two pots for £60 inc post should find homes well enough.
70 might flood the market. Sell a batch, and then give it a break. Be prepared to sell abroad, USA.

I sold mine with pens very well indeed on that sale site that can't be mentioned. Pellets in tins do very well indeed, but then new pellets aren't exactly cheap.

I do t think there is any pens with them. I am popping round again soon so will get a proper look at them and see what she wants to do. I’d suspect she’ll sell them as she has absolutely no use for them!

Thanks for the info, I remember seeing the adverts when I was younger but never used them.

    Thanks

.177's don't have pens as they are pre-assembled.
Only the .22 versions had pens.

They are much rarer than the .22 versions and I would value them at £25 each selling over a period of time.
Minimum of £20 each for quicker sales.

    Hope that helps...

There is a good reason why you see so many unmarked and not many used containers of these.. if you have tried to get a group with them

As a young chap back in the day,I use to do penetration tests on all pellets that I used.
I did the typical yellow pages thing, and also used to line up several empty dog food tins to see how many tins would be passed through by the mighty sabo’s,they were the champions, followed closely by the original Prometheus pellets.:.
    Neither would group very well.

We did that too, a normal .22 pellet would just dent the metal backstop, the Sabo went straight through! Great idea, but as others have said not very accurate and couldn’t be used with a moderator
