To be really really pedantic, it’s not a “factory fitted scope”. That’s, as you know, a Hungarian FEG branded as a Relum with a Relum-branded scope made in Japan (as it says).

I used to hold those things in contempt, but have warmed to them as I get older because (a) they actually aren’t that bad; (b) they hold lots of fond memories for many fine folk.

The only way id warm to one was when i burn tbe stock on a log burner

Yeah,I feel no shame in admitting ownership of the mighty Tornado ldwink.
It was the first air rifle along with a Webley premier pistol that my parents got my brother and me for Xmas,aged 12 years old.
They both hold sentimental value,so won’t be going anywhere.
My ones identical to what Ian is holding up (with ultimate pride) in his photo..
I did eventually put a bsa meteor spring and guide set in my Tornado,and it made it worse..

I liked the Relum Tornado. It is a well made all steel rifle, bit primitive but did the job. Better airgun than a later Meteor. Plus you could buy them out of the catalogue on hp. First gun for many kids from working familys. We used to shoot one that someones dad had found in the boot of a car at the scrappy

Exactly, I suppose with heating and fuel costs going up, you could get a few hours of heating from the stock as well if you put it in the log burner.

Looks rather busy in the tap loading area, but if it's only cosmetic....these things can fade into the background.
Never handled one. I've had an airgun from a much more reputable manufacturer that I could not get rid of quickly enough because although very good looking, it was horrible to shoot and dismantle.
This one looks like it could actually shoot consistently at the very least and dismantled with a couple of screwdrivers.

As you will verify Mick, that one I bought on the way to the Bash about 6 years ago, virtually identical to the one at the top of the thread, shoots really well and in one session with it you may recall, I hit the ‘Quigley Bucket’ target , about the size of a Swan Vestas matchbox out at 75 yards from the firing bench, 5 times out of 8 shots, and only equipped with a piddly wee 4-32 budget scope into the bargain….
And before anyone accuses me of running up tae the target and giving it a belt with the butt, it was done and witnessed fired in the conventional way…
Despite their ‘admittedly‘ agricultural’ construction the Tornado has possibly the most elegant and functional ‘scalloped’ underlever fitted to any make of underlever air rifle!😎

I believe there were 2 models available the Tornado and another. I remember them in the 70's and can't say I would recommend one to anyone. The spring within a spring was novel and so was the kick it produced. Spares for them must have dried up years ago other than the spring and leather washer. Shooters bemoan Chinese guns but they are well ahead in terms of quality than Relum ever were. Best consigned to history.

He actually loves them so much that when he shows off his best examples he wears protective gloves much like they do in museums when handling prized artifacts
