Came forth this vision of a Magnum powered HW80 fitted with Anschutz 335 barrel and breech block. :-

So why or what was the demise?
The fact that spring technology got pretty much optimised?
To improve offerings such as the TX, would cost a lot for not a lot of gain.
Or is it the fact that the springer just didnt need improving, we just went and bought pneumatics instead, low recoil, user friendly and easier to be accurate?
Even the John Darling swapped his tricked up HW80 for a Rapid 7!!!

All you need is an HW80, a CS500 stock, the barrel and breech block from an Anschutz 335, and a milling machine, and you can make your own, Mick.

Substitute an HW95 if you want to stay under 12 ft. lb.

I always thought Streatham Armoury was part of the junk shop in Croydon & Bexhill on Sea, . I think they were called Vandenberg.
Sold them my Webley Premier for peanuts.
Always had a large selection of rifles & pistols

I loved Vandenburger's..... I visited the Croydon shop and thought 'he hasn't got many guns' NO he had them hung from the ceiling on wire.... The Bexhill shop was the last to go, with planning concent issues on the property, it was a true Aladins cave of all sorts, but sometimes, sometimes a bargain could be had!

It's on the to do list, Jim.

Though saying that, the only 335 barrel I've ever seen for sale was IIRC sold on here by the OP of this very thread and I was a bit late to the party.

To be age correct I wouldn't use a HW95 cylinder, I'd use one of my spare Oldschool 85 cylinders.

My pin up at the time was a Gunsport Varminter 80. Luckily it is almost possible to recreate it quite simply!

Was the HW85 contemporaneous with the Maraudermax, Mick?

I've only ever seen one advertised on the net, Paul, and that one was in Scotland.

The idea of morphing the two guns together to get a positive barrel latch and better barrel appeals to me a bit more than the Bowkett barrel latch conversion.

WBPS also did their Marauder tuning on a few other German guns :-

Picked this up about twenty-something years ago. Think it was around £200.

    Marauder Max

An 80 with a 335 barrel latch. The posh version would be a Venom Mach 1 then. Mach 1.5

Or a Webley Venomega. (Was that a thing, or did I make it up? Sounds cool, anyway.)

No Jim, I don't think the HW85 was around in December 1985.

I think the time when you announced the Maraudermax coincided with BSF having been bought out by Weihrauch and them working on the final reincarnation of the BSF55 into the HW85.
As far as I recall the HW85 was launched in 1986, but without digging through a huge pile of magazines I couldn't say for sure, but there is a slight chance that the Marauder was still in production when the HW85 was announced.
