As far as I recall the HW85 was launched in 1986, but without digging through a huge pile of magazines I couldn't say for sure, but there is a slight chance that the Marauder was still in production when the HW85 was announced.

    I too think the HW85/Beeman R10 was introduced in 1986, not 1985.

Came forth this vision of a Magnum powered HW80 fitted with Anschutz 335 barrel and breech block. :-

Substitute an HW95 if you want to stay under 12 ft. lb.
    Do it, Mick; do it!

That will be yet another awesome project to follow.

    Hang on there, Tone.

I've just realised that I never use the HW80 that I already have, there's also the problem that if I built one I'd want it on ticket, which I don't have.

So if I built one I'd be spending good money on something I couldn't use to it's full potential and it would just end up as a cabinet queen.

I'd rather stick to my planned next build as the next one will be under 12ftlbs and as cheap as chips to make as I already have 3 base guns to start with.

Mmmm.....okay then, understood. But, then, if you could ever get over your dislike of the 95's trigger block fixing, Jim's suggestion of a 95 based one would be wickedly awesome.

Will look forward to your next project with springy zest.

    Wot?

Okay, then, going to guess at a 1377 or XS78 based project?

So what is the advantage of putting the 335 barrel on a HW?

Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in

    Barrel

Accuracy. For those looking for something better than a HW Barrel. Back in the 80s I saw a couple of 77's with FWB sport barrels fitted, just to give the shooter the edge!!. Mach 1.5

The other reason for fitting the Anschutz 335 barrel and breech block to the HW80 was to get a positive barrel lockup.
There was much talk in the magazines back in the 1980s about how a break barrel breech could open slightly during firing altering the pellets POI.
Bowkett offered a breech lock conversion on HW80s to stop this but WBPS went one better in fitting the 335 barrel and breech giving a more accurate barrel and a positive barrel lockup.

Airmasters did it to their FWB sports in 1984 also. Mach 1.5

It makes more sense on the FWB sport than on HW80s, as the HW98 works well even with that heavy barrel shroud.
    Too many airguns!

    Cindy Shooting Shop

Cindy Hunt, hoped I'd never see that name again, double dealing double crosser
This goes back to a charity (local hospice) field target shoot around 1983/4, made our Club Chairman look a right plonker in the Council Chamber where a cheque handover was supposed to take place, Hindy C had set things up behind our backs so that she handed over the cheque before us, even had AGW there to record the proceedings.
Rant over, count to 100, breath deeply.

Absolutely. And, to me, that was one of the really good points about the "newer era" Umarex LGV. And a more dignified and refined way of barrel opening and closure to boot. Shame it is no more.
