Any thoughts as to who made this unmarked rifle?
Kind of baffles me? Looks fairly well made? Japanese copy?

Not sure. Unusual to see rounded breach forks like that.

A unmarked prewar Diana model 27

Good eye Danny. Pretty distinctive rounded forks and blocky trigger guard?

The only match I can find for the rounded forks is the post war Relum see Gallery below. Is possible this company had prewar roots in Hungary?

Found it, first instincts were right I believe this is a Japanese copy? The seller came back and changed the story, said it was indeed marked? “Atom Rocket” A bit shady? Trying to sell as German for big bucks. Found these on the internet.

Personally I think the idea it may be a Japanese copy makes it more rather than less interesting, and I love the (I imagine) 50s kitsch of “atom rocket” but I must add that these sorts of rifles are not my interest at all and I know less than nothing
Edit: though I do wonder at the lack of taste marking something “atom rocket” in Japan….. Marking applied later by a retailer maybe?
Morally flawed

Variation on this one (same gun as the second one pictured by Steve). The bluing is similarly dark:
