    multishot ?
    power source ?
open sight, or reflex/red dot ?
do you want some power, or just accuracy ?
    Noise a concern ?

Good value single shot .22 CO2 is the CP1 or clone - around £50 - £60 Crosman 2240 is also OK if you are using open sights, which makes it harder to silence and maybe a bit noisy for back garden ?
    Springer HW45 is great
CO2 revolvers there are dozen to choose from
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Yep, give us a bit of a wishlist, RR, so we can narrow it down a bit for you.

With very little to go on, I'd maybe say the 2240 if you don't need multi-shot capability. And for a more "precision" approach the HW40 SSP is available in .22 these days. Self-contained, too.

But then I've always half-fancied the simplicity of the Umarex Buckmark little springer. Apparently very mild shooting and accurate. Think it's .177 only, though.

    CP2 is good value
You get a pistol that converts to a carbine ,plus a good silencer for the garden

HW40 never fails to put a smile on my face, light, accurate, good sights, brilliant trigger, rail for accessories....... did I mention trigger? out of the box the trigger is on a par with pistols costing far more

The Beeman equivalent is far cheaper, but has been built to a budget, but if its back garden plinking, and you have the time and tools to fettle the trigger it might be a budget option
    TX200 .177 21mm TL | TX200HC .22 22mm TL | Prosport .22 22mm TL
HW40 | HW45 | Diana Mod5 | Webley Senior....... Because PCP is like kissing your sister (apparently)

    HW40
Beeman P17 (HW40 clone, but cheaper)
    Ruger MkIV Magnum.

Or if you want CO2 then there are other options.
This ain't rock 'n' roll- this is GENOCIDE!

Hi Jeff, Going back down the decades, a Webley Tempest or Hurricane could be a good choice as they’re pretty accurate or even a Premier if the finances allow.
In addition a BSA Magnum and Scorpion are both good fun. Stretching finances a little and more recent to, a Weihrauch HW45 in .22 is a bit of a cannon!💥

Forgot to add Webley tempest & hurricane, HW45, Gamo Compact & AF10. The HW45 is one powerful hand cannon though- heavy, loud, smelly (it diesels like hell), kicks like a mule when it recoils & VERY powerful (legal pistol limit powerful). Great fun though!

    CP2 kit
Easy accurate quiet cheap if shop carefully

If you want to improve your pistol shooting :

Diana LP8 (much easier than HW45 if going that route)

The new ish 629 S&W thing looks pretty cool
Looking for TO-6 Trigger unit unmessed with or T0-6 kit for 34
