Hi All

Loud applause to all the Mile Oak crew for putting on a great day.

MetCheck’s forecast of zero to very little breeze was wrong and enabled the field-of-doom to aptly maintain its title. I’m sure that a check on score cards would show that a significant majority of dropped points were ‘won’ somewhere between lanes 17 and 30.

As a reminder, today was the final induction event for around 7 new Mile Oak members, all of who were present yesterday to help set the course, giving them a better understanding of the UKAHFT kill-size and distance rules, and begin the learning journey of how to put out some challenging targets.

Thanks too, to all who helped pull the field targets in while Alicia and I ‘hit’ the score cards and spreadsheet. The latter job was made a little slower than usual today as it now seems likely my mouse’s left button has packed up. I shall have to visit the rodent store for a replacement.

Top shots today were Kev and Howard, closely followed by Gary; all Buxted members and contributing to today’s in-round Team win, enabling Buxted to catch Mile Oak in the hunt for the SIHFT 2022 season’s Team Trophy

For those of you who may not have seen this in the results table before, you may spot the appearance of two ‘new’ classes; “P” for Primary Class against Alex Slusarczyk who is in the SIHFT Under 13 age class and PARA (Simon Moorhead). PARA is sometimes now seen under the heading “Sticks” and is for those among us who are unable to shoot prone and take all shots with their rifle rested on an adjustable height tripod, specially designed for shooting. This is becoming a regular class of its own within HFT and will feature in the next Southern Hunter series. If you have questions about this, Charles has the currently devised rules to hand.

Here are the team results, from today and the updated overall total.

With Team Buxted’s excellent scores today, the gap at the top of the table has now vanished and they share the lead with Mile Oak. For Ford today, with just one member present, we drew the SIHFT rules-permitted 3 (max.) random cards to top up their total.

Club Round 7 scores Round 7 Points Total Points YTD
Buxted 270 12 81
Oaks 261 11 81
Meon Valley 231 10 67
Horsham 220 10 63
Ford 161 8 60

Today’s draw winners were:
£60 – Nik Orr
Air Arms Goody Bag – Matt Franks

Richard Chase’s outstanding Goody Bag IOU was met, by (in his absence today) handing his draw-winning bag over to Richard Wickenden.

In spite of my hopelessness, there were two more Platinum SIHFT Badges won today, by Kev Hills and Neil Palmer. Well done both. Kev hung around to collect his, out of the limelight. For Neil, I’ll hold your Platinum back until you reappear at either Meon or Buxted.

Can you spot any errors in the above table? Have I spelt your name correctly? Do I have you down for the correct club/class/score? – please message me directly.

After a four week mid-Summer break, SIHFT Round 8 will be hosted by Meon Valley on Sunday 4th September.

There is stuff happening in the meantime, and I know of an Open at Buxted next weekend. Then there is a UKAHFT ‘double-header’ at Maldon (aka MAD) over the weekend of the 20th and 21st August. That is followed by the Charity Pairs HFT event at Mile Oak on Sunday the 28th August. For anyone only reading/hearing about this here, it’s a competition which ‘legalises’ coaching at the peg before any shot is taken.

Stay well and safe until we meet again.
