So how are the new HW star nut barrels actually held in?

Hi all, as title really, how are the new star nut barrels actually held into the breech block? And how easy are they to remove?

    Cheers

Great, so if I undo that, then it should just fall apart

The star nut needs to be removed , the barrel is splined also . Use a press to remove it , some heat may be needed if it’s stubborn .

So is the barrel screwed in or pressed in?

Well then young Tone, I'm still thinking what to do with this .25 barrel off cut, not sure I want to destroy the Exocet breech block as they are hard to replace now if all goes wrong, where as HW ones are two a penny and if they are easier to get apart, then may be something can be done.

just drill the HW barrel out of the block on a lathe - much easier. chop it off leaving 2", stick the 2" in a 3 jaw, and bore thru whatever diameter your .25 barrel is from the breach end. Then trim off the protruding section, and use green loctite to secure the .25 in place.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Ah OK, thanks for that Jon, I take it that would be the same process for other companies blocks?

The ones I've disassembled (HWs, Noricas, and an umarex) have mostly been splined/grooved and press fit, except for older Webleys like the Vulcan/victor/excel, which are glued and easily removable.
    Too many airguns!
