    7x57R reloading

Has anyone reloaded 7x57R at all? This is for a German double rifle, while there’s plenty of data for 7x57 Mauser, information on the 7x57R seems to be very little. There’s a bit data from vihtavouri but they’re full house hunting loads. I’m only want to shoot light loads using 150gn jsp preferably under 2000ft/sec
Can this calibre be shot with lead bullets & lower velocities?

It's a popular round here for those who don't want to go the whole hog with a 9.3 x 74r. As a result vectan have some useful data, if you can use it to ball park weights for the powder you have, you can just reduce powder til you get what you want.

If 7x57 is in the Lyman cast reloading manual then there should be plenty of data for American powders. 2400 and Lovex D060/5744 are probably good ones to try. I can check to see if it is in there.

    7mm Mauser

I have the above, no different to 7x57R I assume.. lots of different loads, generally reduced, using the H and N plated bullet.. 160gn..almost any powders from 10gns Red Dot onwards.. very accurate at 100 yards. I do also have a cast bullet for it and some fmj. 18gns N110 good load.
A 10:1 twist.. my Parker Hale rifle. The brass is rather expensive, but I was fortunate to collect a large quantity of fired brass from one of our members. Includes some Rigby brass.

If you want some reduced load details, I can e mail you some from my manuals.

    The Lyman book has cast data for Unique, SR7625, SR4759, 4227, 5744 (Lovex D060), 1680, Rx7, 3031, 2230 and 748.

Older version has red dot, green dot, 700X and a couple of others to. What powder have you got?

Loading data for 7x57 vs 7x57R is basically the same with a big caveat, the R version is usually found in kipplaufs and combination guns that have a weaker mechanism and hence lower maximum pressure-.

CIP (European equivalent of SAAMI) specifies max pressure of 390 MPa for 7X57 and 340 MPa 7X57R, so you need to check what your gun is up for.
It is a lovely cartridge though, easy to find a good load.

I need to check the twist as it looks fast so maybe not suitable for lead. I use red dot, rel 7, can’t find any do60 anywhere near.
