    Gat restoration.

I'm currently restoring an original Harrington Gat. I've rubbed down all the black metal work and am now at a loss as to what to respray it with. It will need to be black to keep it original and available in the UK. I'd prefer spray to keep the finish smooth.

    Any ideas or recommendations?

Best paint for that is Suncorite 259 weapons finishing paint. A semi matt engine paint. If you want although not original but seen on other guns as a paint finish is the wrinkle finish in black. You could also use a light powder finish coat very durable but would need masking from fitted areas.

Some kind of etch primer first then go into Halfords and just get a decent gloss black
That's what I shall do with mine when I get round to it

I seem to recall a matt sheen. Mine had the paint removed to make it look like a chrome version.

I’d go with a satin black, I’ve had good results with Plasticote paints (B&Q etc) and car wheel paint

Thanks guys for the advice. Have plumped for etch primer and a black satin top coat. Will do before and after when finished, hopefully.

Get a black etch primer because if you scratch the top coat in black the colour primer you use will come through and look crap.
