Sussex Interclub HFT 2023 - Round 1 Results

Hi all.

The Ford HFT crew and SHOTS welcomed us to host the opening round of the SIHFT 2023 series and delivered a well-run admin, good breakfast offering, a good course and very un-Ford-like weather. Not entirely without a breeze, but no rain and well short of the usual gale we have come to love. And with just 3 short stoppages, the shoot was complete in a very commendable sub 3hrs from kick-off to the end-of-shooting triple whistle blast. Not that time is critical, but it would be fantastic if the rest of the series gets close to this.

Good turnout too, with an entry of 61. This included 14 people who have not shot in SIHFT ever or not in recent years. We also had more than the minimum of 5 members to make up the teams for all of the five hosting clubs.

Score card completion was generally very good, with zero corrections missing a marshal signature. Couple of missing or ‘wrong’ answers in some sections and 2 cards missing a witness signature. I’ve not applied the Dibbens’ style hatchet to any today, but would ask you to be certain what details you are including e.g. in the scope and magnification section, you should be writing the make and model of scope as well as the magnification you are using during the comp. A few today had one of these 3 elements; such as x10. Lessons can be provided if you are not sure.

Anyway …. Here are the results. It would appear that Charles is certainly getting the hang of his AA XTi50, only sooo narrowly missing out on one of the SIHFT special Clear Round badges. The only column perhaps not recognised from its heading is the last one – the “T”. This denotes that this person’s score has been included in their club team result.

As mentioned in the intro, great to see that all 5 ‘hosting’ clubs were able to field more than 5 members, so no need for the random card draw exercise today. Terrific start to the season for Mile Oak, neither of which Veteran members’ very reasonable 56s made it in to the team!

As a reminder, SIHFT Round 2 is in 4 weeks, on Sunday 28th May at Mile Oak. So prepare yourselves for the hill-of-doom, aka the South Downs.

I expect I will see some of you at the WHFTO near Harrogate next weekend. Then there’s round 1 of this year’s BARC at Meon on the 14th May, the same day as two more HFT Open comps at Buxted and Ford and these are followed by UKAHFT Round 2 at Misfits on the 21st. For anyone shooting with (usually) shorter barrels, there’s also a pistol HFT at Mile Oak on Saturday 20th.
