In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.

All of the above.
I can show my age with the following. Going shooting on a Sunday morning carrying a double barrel 12 bore down the street with no bag. Shotgun licence 10 shillings obtainable from Post Office. No power restrictions on air rifles or pistols. Petrol 4 shillings a gallon. Riding BSA Shooting Star with no helmet legally. First car Morris Cowley £16. Learning to fly a Cessna 150 at £8.50 per lesson. Holiday in Spain hotel cost £1.50 per day. Free return flights to Europe on Court Line BAC 111's because planes were empty. Great days.

My mother-in-law's standard of "old" has always been, "anyone 10 years older than me." She turned 96 this year.
So...I still think of myself as a youngster just enjoying his toys, and encourage everyone else here to do the same!
