Took my Mk 1 .177 HW 97 & .22 HW 95 to the range on Sunday, they both seem to have settled down after rebuilds. The 95 had to have a preload washer out after the last bash, it's now at 10.6. I can't believe how accurate they are now.

Only one month and six days to the bash !

That's a most excellent BOINGY image.

I hope the beer quest ends successfully and you find that perfect one. Always fun experimenting.

Well done on the fettle and range time. I love the 95/98/77 and 97. All of mine are very, very accurate. Another 97 coming soon once the Predator has gone.

Just don't, Pete. It'll be futile. You know he can just pick anything up and give The Bucket a good hammering!

    Just go with the flow.

P.S....And we all know you'll also be giving said target a good pasting, too.

Finally got a brief boingery session in yesterday.......

I'd messaged Gary from Lincoln at the weekend to see if the Bell Target practice night at the pub I went to with him last November was going to be taking place this week or next (it's fortnightly); reply came back.....next week.

Last time I took the little Diana 24D with me, assuming we could only use low power rifles. But full power ones can be used. So I thought I need to have a go with my old battered wardog of cosmetically challenged old '35, get it zeroed with Superdomes (the only pellet allowed at the venue) and also see how the eyes would cope, as since the cataract op, if I don't wear glasses I can see the open sights but the target is blurry, whereas if I put the glasses on, I can see the target more clearly but can't see the sights. And we all know that for open sight shooting we need that foresight to be sharper, so went the no glasses route. Did okay. Grouping was reasonably tight despite these misgivings. Will have to further refine zero, as shooting a tad low. Might also have to check / zero the 24D and take as back-up, as there's an issue with the cocking lever on the 35 (bodged by a previous owner - will get a new one, as they're cheap).

Due to those sighting issues described above, I was thinking yesterday that I can see myself possibly scoping up most of my unscoped guns for ease of use. Would only fit smaller, low mag ones. Will keep some on open sights as I love the purity and simplicity of them. And will have to have a look through the peep sighted 300S and HW55T to see how I cope......

A while back someone at LVAGC had a sticker on a pair of shooting glasses
It only had a very small hole in it and said it allowed his eye to focus on sight and target without a corrective lens
They were made for archery and came from that auction site

Also look at peepsights Tony... quite handy for keeping everything in focus and maintaing that open-sighted simplicity...
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Thank you, chaps. Those suggestions make perfect sense. I will explore. It is a shame that the market is so bereft of sturdy, quality, "sporting-style" peepsights, though, as that is an avenue I would have liked to explore for years. Only those Williams ones, which are seemingly very hard to come by now?

    Tony,
I've a Williams peep sight fitted to an Anschutz 335, I'll bring it to the bash again for you to try. From memory, Les rather enjoyed it (ringing the bell like Quasimodo with it...)

He's no oil painting, but that's a bit harsh
