Got curious & opened a tin of Brewdog "punk IPA", bland and fizzy with a hint of grapefruit. Doesn't taste like it contains alcohols.

Now on a bottle of Poretti, made by Carlsberg UK, bland with a hint of hops.

Looks like I've got a lot of bland beers lol. Think I'll move on to my TV wine.....

Yep, I went off the Punk IPA last year and don't care much for their other offerings. As said earlier, I also found the Poretti very underwhelming when tried.

Do give those Shepherd Neame ones I mentioned a try - their IPA and Old Kentish Ale (I think it's called).

I'd also recommend a re-taste of the Staropramen.

Love a 'proper' IPA - Shepherd Neame is superb, Proper Job really good, Deuachar's when it was brewed in the Caledonian Brewery in Edinburgh using proper hops was sublime. Hate all this Brew Dog and American IPA pish, like drinking a can of Lilt with some bevvy in it!

Agree with all of that. Would love to have tried the Deuachar's.

I had a fair spell of trying different beers although most of the bitters that i enjoyed made me quite heady. Regarding the lagers, i totally get the dislike for some of those although with Asahi, i'd really recommend a retest of that, very chilled on a hot summer afternoon. one of my favourites.!!!

Okay, Mike. Wil give that one a go again. You never know.

Another one I tried last year (cheap from B&M at the time), was the Greek Mythos one.

Have you tried any of the Beavertown beers? They're pretty good!

I had one of the Neckoils last year in a pub and it was truly bland and awful. Maybe it was off and I was just unlucky?

Their Glasswares definately pretty, Barstaff let us liberate one as we were polite to ask about buying one rather than just taking it, back when there was a Pub round the corner and we had a hedge I'd be forever finding empty glasses in it so dread to think what their Glassware bill was.

I got a Pravha and Staropramen glass last year for free by asking nicely if I could buy them after having bought a couple of pints of each. Many pubs apparently get them for free.

Pay days come but I've decided to give it a miss, my Healths been suffering of late and thats just too much a financial outlay to risk being unwell for (as it's Hotel and Transport to cover which will be non refundable if I back out), Mrs wants to spoil me for my Birthday anyway so best I stay home and shoot local if I don't want to shoot on the Home range.
Maybe I'll see you all September.

Diopters / peep sights are very hard to come by, re new ones there are BSA/ Gamo ones but they are cheap & nasty, then there are Precihole ones but they are very modern looking.


I bought an Original model 50 to have as a diopter rifle, not realising how hard such sights were to get hold of, nor how expensive. I have now got sights for it but they cost more than the rifle

The only place you'll find decent old ones is on a forum sales page tbh.

It's cheaper to buy a rifle with them already on than buy just the sights believe it or not !

We were in Newcastle yesterday, having to visit one of my daughters at Uni there.

Whilst there I got the chance to call in at Bagnall & Kirkwood and picked up a new cocking lever for that old war dog of a 35 of mine. Also a new axis pin for if I can't re-use the old one.

Whilst there I thought I'd ask if they might have any secondhand rear sporting peep sights or any elements that I might be able to have a play with. The answer was no. But the nice chap there told me that they can get the Williams ones in, but they now cost around the £140 -£150 mark.

P.S.....There's a new all metal Milbro one on the Protek home page. More of a target style, though. I wonder how sturdy it might be, with a view to mounting on "full power" springers and if the mounts and click adjusters are robust?

Eye watering prices for what they are, basically an adjustable hole.

Just looked at the Milbro one, it looks OK, esp for the price. I'd buy one if I didn't already have one.

When I tried mine at the range last Sunday the rear sight moved backwards about two inches ! I'll have to find a solution for that. The front sight is off to one side too, even if I reverse the element or swap it for the spare one I have. Probably have to bend one with pliers

It was grouping very nicely, even if it wasn't anywhere near the bull .

I hope you get those little issues sorted. The last time I used my 300S, I seem to remember the rearsight was creeping backwards. But it's not an original FWB item; I think the previous owner fitted one of the Gamo ones to it. I ought to nip it up and have a play. But, thinking back to trying a few on the bell target at The Bash recently, I was struggling with a ring foresight. Might probably have to go for larger ring.

The sight picture on my 55T seems fine, though.....aperture rear and square post front.

Will ponder over that Milbro sight for a little while.....a few other little tinkerings have jumped the queue for now........
