NEXT EVENT :- May 2025.........BOING!!
Three weeks today and those going on the Thursday will be waking up already there
Got the hideously over sprung Original Model 50 apart last night after tea, probably a good three inches of preload on an Ox https://www.airgunbbs.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
Re-measured & checked things to make the sight riser & it looks very do-able.
Boing
Well, it made me laugh.
Oooooooh.....that'd make a good, boingy target.
Glad you got the monster spring out. Wil you be shortening it and using or getting another one?
Great to hear that "Project Riser" might be a "go".

Put the new scope on the Longbow
Got a rough " garden zero" in 6 shots
I think this is going to work

Excellent stuff, Pete.
Will you be at the club today to get it set up at longer range?

Some used to try and cram full length Ox springs (plus others) in the cause of meaningless and gun-spoiling power crusades back in the late 70s and 80s. Some were more enlightened and tuned for accuracy and pleasant shooting manners instead. The power chasers gave the Ox a bad rep. To the point where, even until fairly recently, some would say they're only of use on a garden gate.
However, when you get highly knowledgeable and respected tuners like T20 and Shed Tuner saying that they're actually okay, and merely need the length adjusting to suit, that confirms for me that, suitably shortened, all should be good.

Yes Tony
Wind isn't too bad so I am looking forward to this
It is a well balanced set up . I was surprised at how easy it was to get a group standing with it
I suppose it shows you don't need a heavy gun to shoot standing

I reckon Wednesday evening or Thursday morning Tone. Can't wait to be honest. It was looking a bit iffy as my mum, who's nearly 90 is waiting for an imminent hip replacement op. She had her pre-op a week ago so could still technically be any time, but i'm keeping my fingers crossed to get to the bash without it clashing.
I took the Ox out & put it next to the spring that came with the rifle.
The Ox has 34 coils, the other has 33, the ox is 267mm long (scragged) & the other is 255mm. There isn't much in it, the other spring is made of 3mm wire, so it's quite stout. The old spring is slightly bent too, I'm wondering if the spring that was in the rifle isn't the original spring, because it is also over sprung. There were no slip washers or preload spacers either, the spring guide is steel but it has to be because of what it sits on.
I'm thinking of taking an inch or more off the Ox & finding some suitable slip washers, if that doesn't work I might get a Titan spring, they have a more open coil, the N° 3 is 34 coils like the Ox but 304 mm long.
The problem is the small chamber, I want more power out of it for shooting at decent distances but not at the price of lots of recoil & twang.
On another topic, I found some Czech bud and an American IPA called "shipyard" in Lidl yesterday, yet to try them
*Just read the back of the bottle of Shipyard, made in the uk by carlsberg
The Shipyards not a bad drop to be fair.
Regarding the spring, i'd be very tempted to go for the Titan option rather than the Ox. They're very easy to work with when it comes to shortening/collapsing coils etc. Also, for me personally, i prefer the feel of the shot cycle that they offer. The Ox springs do also break now and again. After buying my HW35 Lochschafte and stripping it, i discovered an Ox spring in three bits inside!!!!!
Yeah, I think I will go with a Titan, I don't like how tight the coils are on the OX & I suspect it's going to be harsh. I put a Titan in my Hatsan & it's got a very pleasant soft cycle, I did need to take quite a few coils off because its .25 . The only difference is that's pushing a big heavy piston in the Hatty & the Originals piston is small & quite light.
My mk1 HW 97 had what I thought was an Ox in it, but putting it next to a real Ox I noticed that it's coils go the other way around, then someone told me that Weihrauch used square section springs at one point, which seems odd if it is the standard spring because it was almost coil bound when cocked.
Good luck with your mums op timing & I hope it all goes very smoothly for her, Mike.
Edit, Titan XS number 3 ordered
