I don't think it will be in one piece before the bash, but I'll take you up on your very kind offer & bring the rock hard seal with me. If it's soaked for the few days of the bash it should be perfect, then I'll pop it in a small plastic bag & it should keep until it all gets put together.
The trigger piece needs re-spraying, I've got etch primer etc so that's not a problem, but last time I had a BSA (Mercury) I had an MDF jig that held the trigger assembly for compressing the spring, wish I still had that !
Yep, nice and easy on the preload on the '50, Paul.
Never tried olive oil on leather seals. Hopefully okay? "Back in the day" we'd use some silicone oil, but modern thinking would be to avoid for metal-to-metal. However, if you have it and it's pressed out well, maybe okay?
P.S....Just seen the later posts and the offer from Mike with the neatsfoot. Fine offer and top plan.

Top plan with the neatsfoot oil and great offer, Mike.
If you're going to be springing the Airsporter sensibly and sympathetically, assembly by hand will be safe and do-able. Or you could try with the trigger block in a nice, solid, padded vice (if you have one) and screw the action onto it.

Managed to strip the Model 50, cut off another three coils & rebuild it yesterday evening, with a plastic spin washer at either end of the spring. Before there was about 3mm between the coils due to preload, now there is 4mm. Out of the gun there is 6mm between the coils.
Shot it three times and the power is a measly 6.6 ft/lb s However it's cockable now, almost on par with a 97, it fires with better manners too. The only thing I can think of now is more piston weight, ideally a bit of steel tube the same shape as the spare cocking slot & tack welded in place would be good, but I'll maybe add a few washers instead in the short term.
For now I'll let it bed in & concentrate on making the fore-sight raiser so It can come to the bash.
Only three days of work next week and then it's bash time
