Pyrodex- New rules or old rehashed.

This is a message sent to all south wales clubs yesterday by our ever officious @close em down' feo.

    Subject
PYRODEX - EMAIL BROADCAST FOR ALL HOME OFFICE APPROVED CLUBS RIFLE & MUZZLE-LOADING PISTOL CLUBS SOUTH WALES

    Good Afternoon,
The smokeless powder used by shooters ĎPyrodexí has been reclassified by the manufacturer and allocated UN Numbers; 0499 & 0501. This
means that the powder in question is no longer specifically exempted by the Explosives Regulations 2014.
The exemption for firearms & shotgun certificate holders and RFDs no longer applies.
Consequently, an explosives certificate to possess or acquire the 0499 & 0501 powders, in addition to a firearms / shotgun license is required
    to purchase.
For the safeguarding of your members. Grateful if you would disseminate to those in your club who use this powder that continued possession
of the above without a certificate is illegal.
Members who do not possess the required acquire and keep explosive licence but still possess the subject Pyrodex is required to be removed
    from their possession forthwith.
    For members who wish to apply for an explosive certificate can apply online at the South Wales Police website;
    wales.police.uk/
Your time and assistance is much appreciated.

Yes, same classification as 777. I'm surprised they are demanding that anyone without a certificate surrenders their Pyrodex. A more practical solution would have been a grace period where shooters could apply for a cert. to replenish stocks.

I hope every Pyrodex user applies for an acquire & keep ticket, so the Police can enjoy the additional paperwork (bet that won’t stay free for long…).

    BASC update

Interesting take by BASC on existing holders of Pyrodex.

BASC understands that in the view of some police forces, possession of previously purchased Pyrodex is unlawful without an explosives certificate. BASC’s view is that this is incorrect.

Itís equally interesting that the author of my original post, the supposed feo and scourge of South Wales shooting clubs states that the manufacturer changed the designation of pyrodex when it was in fact our very own hse which did the deed.

I was told if the old tub of 777 or pyrodex didnít have the new stamp on then itís legal to own without a bp license as it comes under the old legislation. Of course technically you could keep topping the old tub up with fresh powder if you could source the new gear lol .
I have a bp license with the new un coding on it but I feel itís a silly law same as the brococks Ö.. which I have them also lol

In this case, you would hope the Police didnít make assumptions and only issued notifications once the Home Office and/or HSE authorised them to do so.

I've been waiting for an explosives cert from the met for a couple of years now. They lost the first application (you can only apply by post, not online). Next copy I sent signed for and my FEO says it is with the grants team... one of these decades I might get it.
