I have a Hurricane that was used as a police trainer in California, and tuned by their pistolsmith. The trigger sear bump is shortened, giving a very nice short pull, BUT this renders the safety completely ineffective! Love shooting it but for liability reasons would be afraid to sell it! (He later decided the shorter Tempest was more representative of their service pistols; they still use them.)
Your comments on the effects of the longer pull are true for me. I have smallish hands and prefer the original narrow trigger blade, as it's easier for me to pull straight back. I tend to push the later wider blade (or an accessory "shoe") sideways.
Although the stock grips fit me well, grip panels which wrap around the front of the frame like these old Beeman ones, move the fingers forward and also aid a straight-back pull.
