    Weihrauch HW75 Wow Finally

The HW75 is a beautiful pistol. It's lovely to shoot and it feels great in the hand. The price of a new one is becoming more expensive.

    So, I treated myself

I've had a bit of pistol turbulence recently.

I sold my Steyr LP2 in early summer as I wanted to shoot more informally and with something less "Olympic standard."

So I bought a new Gamo Compact and fettled the trigger by refinishing and greasing the mech' and fitting a longer M3.5 screw that
    actually did something!

Then I realised that although a cheaper pistol, the Compact is still slightly formal in that it has an adjustable anatomical grip.

Then a Sig Sauer Super Target pistol came up in the sales section on here. I made a rash decision and bought it.
It's a good pistol, well made and with a superb trigger...but...the grips have no stippling and the smooth almost polished finish
was not conducive to a secure hold.

Then I had a lightbulb moment. The HW75 has stippled walnut grips, great build quality and accuracy. I phoned my local gun shop with
the intention of ordering one in, hopefully for delivery before Christmas. To my surprise and delight, they had one in stock. Boom!

So now I have a Weihrauch HW75 SSP pistol and I love it. I've used it just once, last Sunday at the club and it is a very fine product.
It is beautifully made and it looks great too. The cocking stroke requires effort but it's not tiring and I love the fact that the hammer
has to be drawn back to fully prime the pistol after the compression stroke. I've adjusted the trigger to my liking and now I'm looking
forward to putting some decent groups in at 10m on NSRA cards. I'm finally at peace with my pistol of choice and will enjoy
some informal pistol shooting from now on.

    The '75 isn't cheap - I paid £390 - but it's a well engineered, self-contained beauty that I have fallen for big time!
One last point - it has a high enough MV to cut clean holes so scoring is simple and accurate.

The Mayor: Intent? How did you establish that?

I have studiously avoided the HW75 as I always considered it a dressed-up HW40 - which is a very competent pistol, but one that I personally found quite dull. However, reading the above has certainly piqued my interest, maybe something to consider next year...
Too many guns, or not enough time?

Really, the brand new one I tried didn't. Although it grouped very tightly.
There does seem to be some variation with M.V with these. Could it be that they are so on the edge of things that some do have enough and some don't.
The entire bunch of these SSP platforms seem to hit approx 380 fps to 410 fps, with typical match pellets and have just as much variation in this velocity range in the same make as in different models. All having very similar cylinder sizes and barrel lengths. Perhaps the ones hitting the upper velocity limitation (for whatever reason) have just enough to get the result you are getting, or perhaps you are using better quality cards.
    Result.

The breech seal contact on over-lever pistols is critical to getting a good fps, particularly with SSP pistols that have relatively small powerplants.
I sourced a quad seal to replace the o-ring on my FAS 604 breech, I also added 0.3mm (using aluminium tape) to the face of the piston to increase the compression ratio. The two things got the fps from 350 to 410 using 7 grain MK's, but can't remember now which one had the greatest effect.

I chronographed my HW75 this morning using an FX pocket chrono. The clean holes in the target were explained!

Over a 10 shot string it averaged 419 fps which, for a SSP, is pretty good.
