I have a Mk4 combro chrono, the display just has a comma then 8

Tried removing and fitting new batteries. Tried pressing and holding RST and the other buttons.

    Is it goosed?

Have tried shorting the left and centre break out pins? A second or two only to avoid damage

Sorry for delayed reply. Forgot this. Looking at the display face of the Combro there's a three pin connector for a lead connecting to laptop etc
Left and centre pins shorted for a second or two can clear error codes etc

The £20 ones you bolt on?

People show off a test of theirs quite regularly. They work. They're not calibrated but neither was your combro and neither is almost every other chrono out there.

    Good enough for hobby grade

If you mean not calibrated, you mean to something like a registered/recognised standard? All chronos would have had some form of calibration check during manufacture/set-up. They just don’t have a calibration certificate issued.
Anyway, I thought later Combros could be user-calibrated against a known source if you wish, as they came with the instructions on how to adjust the readout.

or more simply, as I do with my pro chrono... I have worked out by reference to other chronos that it over reads by about 3%... so just deduct 3%. It's not that hard

Why keep such an innacurate chrono you say ? Well, it's not innacurate, it's just not calibrated. And it is an open sensor one, so very useful for:
    i) downrange ballistic co-efficient testing
    ii) archery
    iii) cattys

try doing any of those with a combro
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Archery with a Combro would be interesting for sure. I’m sure for you down range wouldn’t be too much of an issue…
I’ve an old (second hand) Skan, a few Combros of various generations (1s and 4s), 3 Shooting Chronys and an FX. God knows why. The Chrony were of course most useful for me for down range testing but I seem to have started collecting them in the same way as certain air rifles. Without rhyme or reason.

I have to say the FX is a real game changer... just enjoy your shooting session and forget about it, knowing you can check the fps when something goes wrong, or look at the whole string when you have finished.
