It was to be many, many years until the advent of the Internet too, so AGW, other shooting publications, later airgun magazines and word of mouth / shops were our source of information and learning.

I stopped buying it as there seems to be fewer springers in it.

Can tell you that there's a piece on a Mk4 Meteor, and Welsh Willy replacement piston head in December issue. This month a rare classic PCP.

Seriously thinking of cancelling my sub.

Been buying it for maybe 45 years.

This may be a generational thing. I have precious little interest in the latest Turkish PCP. Others may well.

It’s not entirely about the journalism. Old AGW and AG had their issues - like Eddie Barber writing positive reviews on guns that his employers imported…

And while I have no doubt that Dave Barham is a great guy, he doesn’t have TD’s pedigree, experience, and wisdom/insight.

Long time indeed, Graham. Nice to see you on here, sir. We must have that get together sometime.

Fancy a day at Brian's range in January? (Details as per current thread).

I saw a member of the Gainsborough club in our shop the other week.....Barry....think he mainly shoots 10m in the indoor range? Asked him to say "hi" from me.

Terry did retire from his position as Editor but was contributing excellent articles. His disappearance was quite sudden and I think something more sinister could well be at play here.

Dave Barham seems to have gone "walkabout", too.

Not sure anyone might agree with me here, but I think things went south with the advent of the entirely FT target functional PCP.
These implements sure get the job done (no arguments from me here, for the perfect head alignment, gigantic zoom scope accommodation and stock features putting function before asthetic) allowing a competition levelling experience. However, if one bases your publication on such things, it's going to offer a mind numbingly dull experience.
The guns of yesteryear much more appealing, simple in design, far better in asthetic, following the lines of hunting stalkers. Think .22 Rook rifles of the 60s etc.
It brings with it joy of ownership, sleek design appeal and tuning needs, possibly why everyone is buying up classic arms at the moment, and copies of the old articles. Way more appealing and fun.

Like this. We could fish with a super efficient net, with gigantic sonar device strapped to the top, with wind detection devises and other scientific advances which could reel in 30 fish at a time, but what an utterly boring and dull concept.
It's about testing oneself with a sleek rod from the reeds.
AGW went down the road of FT and its equipment versus how it use to be about hunting with a simple gun and few us bought into it...

Being an old fart, I only read the JM or JA section of AG or AGW. Any well scoped PCP (sub 12ftlb) will shoot as good as it's owner. Reviews have cost me in the past.

I used to enjoy reading articles by Terry D, and he's always had my respect as a shooter and supporter of the right to hunt humanely with sub 12 rifles. Sadly, I couldn't carry on reading his articles after I thought he came out too much in favour of Anti Tamper and the AMTA, and used his influence to stifle discussion on the subject.

I remember some of the reviews. One, in particular had words and phrases like "total confidence" and "precision"...
I bought said rifle (a springer) and it was a complete pile of doggy do.
Then I did my research on here. It was a pile of doggy do

In fairness, someone in Terry’s position has to come down on the side of anti tamper. There are plenty of anti shooting people out there , that would pick up on any negative spin going.
On a personal note, Terry has promoted our Armsfair and charities over the last 7 years. I am very grateful to him and Dave Barham.

Terry is alive, well and very much retired. If you are friends with him on FB you would see he is currently in a bivvy somewhere fishing.
You can spend thousands and still miss a barn door or spend just enough and enjoy yourself. If you haven't got the talent to start with a million pound won't fix it. Whippet, Russell, a few bang sticks and a flat cap. http://www.smart-tech1st.co.uk
