true, although 28 pitch moderators are harder to find here, which is a shame as it's probably more suitable.

Unless you are constantly chopping and changing moderators, I'd just go with a slip on and KISS.

One thing I've done in the past is bored out a barrel to 8mm, and inserted a skinny 8mm OD barrel liner in your chosen calibre. Easier with shorter barrels. and only sensible if new barrels are not readily available and to preserve originality. Harper did a similar thing with brass barrel liners in .25

I've only just been able to login folks.
Any way the bits are back home now and still smell of the workshop. I have to be careful next, where the barrel has been enlarged at the breech block it comes into contact with the barrel bolt.
After the FX barrel is glued in place I will have to very carefully file it to match the the barrel bolt hole, trying to push the bolt through now would probably distort the new barrel.

Everything gets a degrease next and the cylinder will need to have the score mark polished out which luckily is not in the compression end. That will need daylight.

Jon I like your new name for it. FX Meteor it shall be.

you really need to file the slot for the bolt in the barrel liner first, to avoid over enlarging the block hole (if you do it installed) and introducing any potential movement. file and recheck frequently. just do the maths and make sure you don;t get too close to the bore ! once it's all happy, glue the liner in with the bolt in place, barrel in the jaws, to ensure no alignment issues. 24 hours later remove the barrel and dress as needed. I normally leave the breach end around 0.5 - 1mm proud - it's easy to trim off, and provide a slight (not too much at all) lead in. also if you need to turn the breech OD down for 3mm or so to hold the breach seal o-ring, now's the time

    Now the goodish news.
The FX barrel now has a very small recess filed into it and the barrel bolt fits through nicely. It is now dry fitted together while I work up the courage to glue the barrels together.

The next question, would using a slow setting superglue be better thus allowing time to position the recess clean any glue that might have migrated into it, double check the bolt and not have it glued in place by mistake.

As for the breach seal. the original groove is intact except for the new barrel making the inside wall for the seal. My plan is to enlarge the breach seal ID so that it sits around the FX barrel exactly as the factory fitment.

I am experimenting with round file to do this, using a seal off the bay, the others of which were a bit tight on unmodified Meteors.

don't use superglue, or anything too tough like green loctite. regular blue loctite is perfect, and slow setting enough to allow for the required positioning. Just degrease the main barrel bore and the liner OD - but no need to be religously clean. And make sure you glue in the liner with the choke at the muzzle end

Mentioning blue Loctite, its often used for applying to stock screws making them less likely to loosen. How easy/hard is it once done to remove the screws in future ?

If you are using your phone for the forum, the easiest method would be to wattsapp the pics to your phone, if you are using a laptop or PC use the USB cable you charge her phone with to connect it to the computer & download them.
