    Tuning a Springer

I wouldn’t be confident in stripping and tuning my rifle. Does anyone know where I
could send my BSA Lightning XL SE for tuning?

    Thank you

Might be worth asking venoman on this forum.

Yes, if Lyn (venoman) can accommodate he'd do a brilliant job. If he can't, maybe approach a good shop in your area (like Blackpool Air Rifles) as they're sure to have, or know, someone who could perform the work for you.

A few mates have asked me the same question in the past saying they don’t feel confident enough. I just advised them to get a cheap springer to practice on and make use of online videos. Now they are all dropping in tuning kits, doing mods, custom tools and all sorts.

I believe it’s a skill for all springer owners to learn, not just for tuning, general maintenance, repairs and keeping it legal.

The BSA Lightning XL SE is fairly straightforward.

This. If you get caught out hunting and the sky opens up and all the water falls out, you need to strip that gun down to clean and rebuild it. Even if that doesn’t happen, imo it needs a regular (6-12 month) strip down, check and relube.

I have a lightning here in desperate need of a strip and clean. How hard can it be?

Is venoman still on here? I sent him a pm in September asking for his help and he’s not replied. Just wondering if he has stopped using the site.

I sent him a BSA Lightning a couple of years ago and it came back shooting like new. I think he may use Facebook groups over forums now.

Would I be correct in guessing that a XL SE would be a later model and that, therefore, it would use the Gamo trigger unit? If this is the case, stripping and rebuild would be very straightforward as one of the more fiddly jobs on the older ones was reassembling the trigger unit. The Gamo unit comes out as a self-contained assembly, making the whole affair much simpler.
