Maybe a visit to Big Dan? Isn't he in Essex?

Something leftfield about Cometa, despite the problems experienced for me they still appeal.

Please let us know how you get on if you purchase one.

It’s what attracted me to the brand plus having a good rfd nearby

I’m not a springer geek and not much experience but see all guns seem to be stripped and tinkered with so I thought why not try a cheaper gun and see where we go, Cometa are budget guns compared to AA/HW so any buyer would not expect the same gun out the box, that said what you do get is brilliant for the money like three barrel lengths, five stock options and three calibres, the laminates are really well finished and Cometa pistol grips are just much nicer than the HW for instance, some walnuts are lovely too but some look quite light which I don’t like, stripping them is simple and some have had sharp edges inside but only found once stripped, the blacking is decent and a big plus for me are the barrels, proper hammer forged and weirdly all mine shoot jsb stuff very well indeed.

The triggers are not as adjustable as the AA/HW units, and target shooters will prefer those over an out the box Cometa, but with a little basic tinker they can be made very nice indeed and I’ve actually modified blades to have an extra grub screw to help adjustment, and now I see Cometa fit new metal blades !.
Also been tuning one 400 experimenting and found original pistons to be quite lightweight already, I tested three different SS heads, along with seals from HW and Aussie, springs from TWChambers and guides from Shauny, Cometa parts are cheap and readily available so I bought a few pistons, barrels options, trigger assembly’s and bits so I could test things and always revert back if it failed and some did
I found the original seal more consistent than the others, also the 15 & 20mm SS heads best in the longer barrels but effected cocking to much for me in the compact and USC, I ended up running original strokes but feel the glided pistons and Shauny’s kits make these near as slick to shoot as my TL22tx, virtually recoiless and very quiet too

I have serious shoulder problems so weight is also a major issue which brings me to my absolute favourite Cometa, the 220 compact, standard spring with Shauny’s guides and only two real modifications, glided piston and ground and polished trigger sear, oh and a trigger tension spring change, it’s bang on 10ftlb and an absolute gem to carry around the farm, light, accurate and reliable plus for under 200£ I don’t mind chucking it about.

I’ve also started 15m BR with the 135£ 6ftlb 100 using diopters it’s very promising but tinkering/tuning isn’t complete as we start this new Cometa journey.

Sorry i've been working away and couldn't check, they were 4.52, but I didnt try any other head sizes.

Also shot Superdomes well, but mine needed a pellet tool to load into the chamber or the bottom part of the skirt would get trapped (made a written note about that). I've only kept target cards for Express and its the only pellet I recorded in my little book, so Express must have been noticeably better than anything else I tried. Most my pellets are heavy for hunting, things like Barracuda Match but i'll have tried regular Exact, Superdome, crossman premier HP, S-Hollowpoint and a few flat heads.

I will try RS and QYS streamlined sometime, but I'm only a casual springer shooter so that will probably have to wait for a nice day.
