Will BSA Ever Make a Springer That Challenges HW Again?

In the mid 80s with the Superstar and Goldstar BSA did make a good effort to compete with Weihrauch, however near a miss that was.

Will they ever try it again? Or have they found their level and are going to stay there?

I would like to see this happen.
The Superstar and Goldstar were fine guns imo, the Superstar being my favourite bsa.
The Hw77-97 and the AA Tx200 were so dominant (especially for competitive target shooting) that most chose these models.
Unfortunately bsa have consentrated purely on pcp production.
They don’t make a quality break barrel or even a pistol.
    Les..

Unfortunately not, Gamo have too much of a strangle hold on BSA, they had the chance to produce something different with the Meteor Super but it just turned out to be another BSamo, shame really as it would be nice to see them put the frighteners on the competition, even if it was a perfect rifle for the UK market (like a HW99 beater).
A sliding breach updated Airsporter would be nice as well.
Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in

I’m curious about the new Meteor but some reviews have been quite negative about it.

I’ve never thought of a sliding breech Airsporter, as the RB2 was designed to compete with sliding breech rifles, that’s a genius idea Pete. Lighter than a ProSport, as accurate as a 77. Maybe a long stroke with a narrow piston? The return of a swoopy back block that harmonises with the swoopy trigger. Could be a beauty..

Its a difficult and pretty niche market, pcp's have become so cheap the springer market must be quite a struggle for manufacturers. Having checked out the latest Meteor i'd say not, assembled in Britain it may be but from the Gamo parts bin. That was a gun i'd loved to have liked, but there was nothing that tempted me to part with my cash. I cant see them producing a high end springer, but who knows, maybe the springer market will shrink to the point that they just become enthuiasts guns and an opportunity arises for BSA.

Interestingly my RFD has stopped stocking AA on the shelf now.

I think they're so behind the curve and happy with their target market

I think with inflation and the cost of living etc Air Arms springers are now something of a luxury item. A standard beech-stocked TX200 has a RRP of £700. That’s a pretty big chunk of money, and an HW99S or HW35 is about half that and do 95% of the same job in a skilled shooters hands, 100% in an average shot’s.

I doubt very much that anyone will ever make a new top end springer, because they're seen as too old fashioned.

    They never really tried.
The Superstar has the same basic trigger as the Meteor (yeas, I know it has the pseudo two stage and is better, but basically it is the same)
With todays Gamo market strategy, I really doubt they will ever introduce something that can compete with guns like the HW95 and 99/50.

Webley did a much better effort than BSA ever did with the Longbow and Tomahawk.
    Too many airguns!

Leave it a little while longer and HW will come to the same level as BSA

The thing is, I think BSA play on their heritage and people new to the game buy a BSA believing it to be a good make but they soon realise they aren't anymore, which is a shame.

It's a shame Webley went tit's up as they where heading in the right direction, even if it was a bit late.
