Solid Brass heavy HW77 muzle weight

    Hello All

Does anyone know wo made solid brass muzzle weights for the HW77 back in the day?

This one is very heavy at 16 oz. and is 25mm diameter I has a cup in the under section into which pops the ball in the underlever. I guess it would work with MK1 and MK3? I have it on a MK3

It was gold when I got it. I've since applied "brass blacking" as I am not a fan of bling.

    Thanks for any advice

There was an absolute fad for brass things in the mid 80s, can't remember who was responsible. You'd go to an FT comp and you could be forgiven for going home thinking you'd accidentally turned up at a Shire horse fetish meet.

There are still loads of HW trigger guards in brass on the auction site, whereas we all know they look best in brushed aluminium or black.

Funny you should say you don't like bling, just got me some copper carbonate and on the hunt for some ammonia to de-bling a brass muzzle weight.

16 oz is 1 lb no? That's a lot of weight or erm 'stability' at the end of the rifle.

Indeed Alistair it's a lot of weight.

I'm guessing it wont work with the MK1 as that model underlever has a cup and the ball was in the latch right?

I have Birchwood Casey "Brass Black"

    Thanks

I’m hoping for the promised ‘anodised aluminium black’ with the homebrew. Plus it’s cheaper.

Yes Mk I had a simple ball and a spring, so your brass ballast would need a catch.

Oliver J. Gower sold the brass versions back in the 1980's.

Here is one of mine, it was made by Ken Turner. It came on this Venom HW77 Vantage. I was told Ken made about 5 of them in slightly different styles. Hope this helps!

A beauty indeed... But what is the actual tuning on the inside?

Another picture of it, the moderator is really heavy and yes no muzzle flip in .177. It was running low on power so had it serviced, but up to the limit. I was told it’s not a Lazaglide but its had some work as it shoots very nice. Managed to get a 30mm Hertel and Reuss scope for it with period steel
Mounts which again was a challenge. For an 80s rifle it has an 80’s look with the brass and orange tiger striped stock.
