    Theoben Rapid Quick Fill Upgrades

I am currently looking at fitting a QF system to the Mk1 kev g rapid. I know the Dr Bobs and Best fittings are two options. Dr Bobs requiring the stock to be drilled although only moving the cylinder forward 10mm whereas the Best fittings requires no stock drilling and moves the bottle forward 50/55mm. I would just like to ask what your experiences are and recommendations for a QF system. Any help is greatly received.

    Kind regards

Go with Dr Bob's. The best fittings option completely changes the balance of the rifle.

Yeah, I think it's 15mm, but defo better than shifting everything forwards 2"

I've got the Best Fittings QF on my FAC,
Yes, it's fairly ugly, & Yes, it pushes the weight forward 40mm, but it avoids having to cut/drill the stock.
The downside's with Dr Bobs are cutting the stock & that once fitted to remove the bottle it must be drained, so a bit of a pain if setting the reg or changing an O ring.

Has to be said I've seen some abortions when it comes to cutting/drilling the woodwork.

for me it transforms it from annoying out of date tedium (removing the bottle) to a modern classic...

I think it is definitely the way forward, it is just weighing up between the two options as cutting into the stock doesn’t appeal greatly to me. I am also thinking along the lines of using a smaller bottle also. Something else to think about

I've a 200cc bottle on mine with a 300mm barrel, just make sure you get the right one for the bottle. Just take your time with it and I'm sure you'll be fine with it. Atb Mick.

    Cheers Mick,
This is the route I was looking at with a smaller 280cc bottle and QF setup. I think the balance would be quite nice and make it a more rounded off rifle.

Of course this only my opinion, but for me its both.
So, one of the best features of shooting a rapid is its balance, perfect from just in front of the trigger. Once you move the bottle forward this changes.
Then the aesthetics, seen some awful adaptations to the stock etc. to have an extra widget stuck in the end.
So then time wise it actually saves about 30 seconds on a fill up which again in my opinion isn't worth it.
My MK1 is roughly 30 year old, had it from new, and its never been an issue to fill it.
Plus, if you screw the little bottle into the big bottle then you don't waste the air in the whip either.

I find the 280cc bottle balances better too.. and fits nicer in your hand. It's not like you need 400cc of air for 12 FP anyways. FAC, I get it...

280cc definitely makes sense, it is not for the filling as that is no issue, more so that I can keep check on the air capacity that remains in the cylinder. The 400cc is quite a chunk stuck on the front of the mk1 and the 280 being smaller seems to make more sense. It is a shame there is not a gauge that can be screwed onto the buddy bottle to get a reading of air that remains to do a quick check… or is there such a thing?
