Thanks. Been looking at the HW90 for a while. Will get the Slim Jim kit too in case there are power issues.

I had a 90k once, better trigger tan the Theobens, bloody heavy, I think mine was touching 12 pounds in weight with a scope and mounts.
Far too many rifles to list now, all mainly British but the odd pesky foreigner has snuck in

I certainly enjoy mine and would never part with them !
If I knew anything about Star Wars (saw the first film released in 76 or 77, didn’t keep up with it because of Apocalypse Now and Alien) .. then you need some kind of gas-ram Yoda to unlearn all expectations brought with a springer mindset?

get a PCP stirrup pump instead - just a cheap one will do fine, and be much better than a slim jim.
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

Any of the Theobens really. Chalk and cheese in comparison to a "retro-fit" ram.
Tried a couple in past, 90 was too front heavy poor balance and the BSA was just awful.
I would just stick to the rifles that the RAM was designed by and for.

Gas rams have properly machined pistons, if you're into that sort of thing.

The Diana AM03 shoots very nicely indeed. It has a strut fitted which, I believe, is made by Bilstein (and, I guess, specifically made just for Diana for this rifle). Very quick action, minimal sight picture disturbance, accurate. There were other models using the strut under the "N-Tec" banner.

As and when the day comes when the strut gives up the ghost, I'm undecided as to whether to have the strut re-sealed, or then convert to steel spring.

The very knowledgeable (and excellent shot) Graham, baxterbasics, once told me to go HW90, after years and years of going round in circles trying to tune springers to his liking....."get the pressure adjusted just right and they're super-sweet to shoot". And this does seem to be the case with the 90. I have shot some very, very sweet firing ones. As I have Theobens.

My only experience with a gas ram gun is a Theoben Evolution .177. I tried to get along with the gun for around 10 years, changed seals once, tried several power levels and all available quality pellets. I REALLY wanted to get along with the gun, but it was a snappy, hold sensitive, long an heavy beast.

I traded it for a very nice 1987 HW85, and have NO regrets.

Oh, did I mention that the trigger cage on the Evolution was not welded on straight?
    Too many airguns!

Yes, they do seem to be a mixed bag, don't they? Some seem really nice to shoot and are easy to shoot accurately. Others not so. And triggers often singled out for criticism.

I have shot some very, very nice Theobens at our Boinger Bash events. And a good one seems to be a joy to own. But I'll never forget my first acquaintance with them......June, 2013 and the very first Boinger Bash. There were two Theoben Fenmans there. One belonged to Tinbum and the other to Rhyslightning. They couldn't have been more different. Nick's was fine to cock, firing cycle was lovely (and quick, not harsh) and the trigger predictable. The one belonging to Rhys was an absolute barsteward to cock, was harsh upon firing and the trigger unpredictable and "gravelly". No doubt this was down to individual set-up and expertise of the owner, but they really were like the proverbial chalk and cheese.
