What scope/rifle, is it new ? if so take it back if used contact the seller ask them, if a pcp is it fully charged
This may help, make a fist with your RIGHT hand and place it next to the turret you want to adjust, UP/DOWN or RIGHT/LEFT. Point your RIGHT thumb in the direction to move the POI and your RIGHT fingers will point in the direction to move the adjustment screw.

The easiest way is use a simple clock face,

Looking at the scope dials so you can read the markings, the rifle barrel always points to 3 o-clock,
now turn the rifle clockwise & the barrel/muzzle will now point down to 6, and the muzzle has moved in an arc from right to left, so it is telling you what the POI will do.
Turn the rifle back anti clockwise the muzzle comes back up & again points right.

so thinking of the barrel like the hand of a clock tells you what direction to turn the scope dial, clockwise = down/left, anti clockwise = up/right.
