Well I've taken the plunge and asked my local gunshop to order one in 177 for me. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh!

It's about time, if it's true.

I just hope it's not the same sort of build quality as the Meteor Evo thing they produced a while back.

I suppose I could buy one and put a proper Lightning barrel on it.

Several well known retailers are showing them on their Websites now, whether or not they have any in stock is a different matter.
The best photo set I could find showing the walnut stock was a .177 on the Guntrader site !
    It’s pretty good if I’m honest !

Its Bsa's best yet and getting ever closer to matching HW, Minelli walnut and beech stocks, screw locking pivot pin, removable/adjustable transfer port, New bsa's own trigger, better quality mainspring after dropping the gasram version.
If all of that is true, that's sounding more promising. Screw locking pivot pin? I hope it's a more substantial affair than the attempt used on the Supersport Custom, Mercury S / Challenger etc. Removable / adjustable transfer port? Intrigued. Could be extremely useful, or might end up being an area to cause confusion for the less experienced? Better trigger? Definitely called for. Let's hope they've got this right. If so, could be a belter.

I wonder if they've gone the Brocock Independent route with the barrel locking pivot bolt? But they haven't used the transfer port restricter with the grub screw again, interested to see what the new trigger is like.

Yep, I suppose the barrel pivot bolt as used on the Brocock (Gamo design, was it, also used on later Gamo Meteors etc.?) would do the job, Pete. And, yes, you'd hope they haven't reverted back to the port with grub screw. Trigger will be most important. Early days, so I'll keep an open mind. One thing's a given....pointability, wieldability should be great.

The barrel's still to long for my liking but I can't blame BSA if they are going in a different direction, personally I would have put the Supersport name on it because of thebarrel length.

Worst case scenario, you could always have the barrel chopped and re screw cut to your preferred length. I assume BSA don't choke their barrels.

Still a bit of a pain they didn't cut it shorter from new though.

I've always been led to believe they do choke them, all the barrels I've rodded a pellet through have been tight at the end, that's why I've always used Lightning barrels, instead of chopping the original barrels.

The Gamo pivot bolt is worse than the old Supersport pin (In my opinion), so lets hope this one is better.
But the gun looks quite interesting, if the stock design is ignored.
    Too many airguns!

The problem is for me, is that I prefer the original classic sporter style stocks, like what's fitted to the Supersport Custom, Superstar, Goldstar and even the earlier HW77, 80 etc (I'm sure the above mentioned models stocks where all made by the same company)
No chunks taken out of the stock.

Me too. But if the guns has good mechanical design, I'm more tempted by that than good looks.
