I have a very limited understanding of hft shooting. This vid has given me an insight. I've also seen the many arguments about hft shooters vs hunting shooters. One observation I've made is the amount of time to settle into shots and the ability to fidget for comfort. Whilst I do understand why the hft shooter does this, most of the rats on my permission would have left by the time each shot is taken and would have been spooked by the movement of the shooter.
    That said, nice groupings, mate.

You are given time per shot on HFT course so you can relax into it as you say.
Not many rats are shot prone at 45 yards. Usually much closer range and you are either sat or stood.
Different discipline but with a lot of cross over. My experience says doing FT/HFT makes you a better hunter/pest controller, even if all it does is confirm your ability at given ranges and lifts your confidence.
Silhouettes are a side shoot to the FT/HFT which take 20 targets, 5x at 20, 30,36 and 45 yards. Practice at this gives masses of confidence in the field.

There's no doubt that it will improve the marksmans principles and core skill. I just wonder if someone shooting predominantly hft would feel rushed on a shoot with skittish prey.
Similarly, the hunter may fail to appreciate the time they have on hft on snatch at things. It's just something that I noticed from watching that video.

Possibly, and they are different disciplines but my experience says no, it just makes you better, better at controlling the nerves and adrenaline as well as your marksmanship.
This is only my experience and opinion, and have done a great deal of both along with people who have done both and only pest control. Of course you get shooters who only hunt and are cracking shots and you get HFT shooters who should just use a catapult.

I think consistently good springer shooting definitely benefits from not rushing the shot.
Although I take my time in HFT and get nice and settled, there are others who are great shots and shoot very fast. Maybe they have a hunting background. I definitely shoot faster with a PCP.

Eight years? Impressive! I just installed my first Vortek kit (PG4) in my 97K Jubilee, and I've been wondering what kind of life expectancy it might have. Care to guesstimate how many rounds you squeezed out of your PG2?

The V-Mach kit that I fitted to one of my Mark I 77s has been in there since early 2010 and is still shooting smoothly and very accurately. I have no plans of opening it up in the near future.

I’m looking at my 97k - not done anything to it and was looking to improve on the Vortek but I’m not sure that I’ll get that with another make of drop in kit, Having my 80 Glided & guided by Shauny, it’s up there with the Vortex kit on my other 80’s, better probably, had to tell, I probably need a bit of a shootout between them.

The appeal of the Vortek kits are the lack of heating and compressing the spring, then having to match a set of guides - not that it bothers me but the Vortek kits usually require a coil or 2 removing with a neat file & sand on the cut and it’s back together again, all are running Britseals all round - that combination seems to work and has been consistent across several rifles.
    Cheers Ady; excellent info.
