    'Sticky' digital vernier caliper

One of my electronic plastic vernier calipers is 'sticky' i.e. it does not slide easy at all along opening and closing when measuring.

I don't want to add anything like oil etc in case it has the wrong effect.
Any ex engineering trades men know what to do to improve it's use?

Ideally you want to clean it thoroughly and then use a dry lubricant like graphite.

Can you get it to bits? A bit of alcohol shouldn’t damage the surface finish (like acetone probably would).

Failing that, WD40 has enough white spirit in it to ungunge things, but can then be a source of new gunge…

Yep, as above, IPA should be fine to de-gunk it, and won’t harm any electronics.
