    West German Springers

In fair condition and very satisfying to shoot with the excellent standard sights.

HW77K, HW80K, Original Mod 38 and a Haenel Mod IVE.

They're all .22 except for the Haenel which is .177.

Nice little group of air rifles, the Haenel looks interesting, which model is it? Is it dated, maybe with a stamp on the heel of the stock?

Can't quite make up my mind which I like the best the 80k or the Original........actually I think it might be the Haenel!? But not sure why, guess it's because it's a bit of history & you don't see many of them about.

    very nice

They are all well designed and engineered rifles of their time. My favourite would be the Hw77 for its novel action and loading , and of course it took the HFT scene by storm at the time.
    Nice collection .

The Haenel Mod IV E belonged to my great grandfather and handed down to the sons, it's a bit of family heirloom.

The original 38 and it's 30's predecessors are well engineered rifles. Easy to strip down having a quick release cocking lever pin as standard.

The 77k is the nicest to shoot.

The prewar Haenels were dated with two digit month/year under the cocking lever near the breech. Only the smaller Dianas (model 35 and below?) had dates on the heel of the butt.

I like the O38 and that is a rare, early short cylinder version. I have one in fact. Most are dated 08 85 and there is apparently a walnut stocked one from same era.
I've always fancied one of those Haenels. I do like the marque.

I nearly bought one of those mod 38 the other week. I couldn't get to collect it though. Shame I fancy trying one. Heard good things.

Some classic German shooting iron is shown there. I own some of them aside of the Haenel and the 77, though i do own the 97k.
The 38 seems to me an uncommon and almost forgotten family member in the Diana/Original lineup. Memory fails me now as to which showed up first- the hogs back version you have or the rather angular box like stock version(the one i own was the very last out of the Ruag warehouse). Would be interesting to know the date stamp on yours?
I think the only less common of the Original/Diana line up is the model 36. Perhaps as it was not marketed that much on these shores.

The hogsback stocked 38 was the earliest one, Dave. Had the shorter cylinder. A rare gun, but as you say, the 36 is even rarer on these shores. When 38s pop up for sale they tend to be later ones, which are quite different.
I've hardly ever seen 36's come up for sale, 26s and 28s are similarly rare, especially 28s.

This one is stamped 07 85 and I had an 1985 Mod 36 a couple of years ago and missed it.

I'll have a look for that stamp, I haven't seen many markings.

Do I spot a nicely set back trigger blade on the 77?

You're correct, I'm not sure who made it though. I think I do shoot a little more accurately with it.
